Midi Link Sync gone again?
Hi,
I'm trying to find this app on the app store...it says not available in my country.
For me nothing can do what it does the way it does. Its vital for my live rig.
Does any one know a way to contact dev? If its gone, I now have two frozen iPads. An air 1 running 12.x and my 8 gen running 14.
And frankly, I'll NEVER buy another apple product. EVER. The way they do os updates is bs.
IMHO
Thx for reading.

You could try link to MIDI https://apps.apple.com/es/app/link-to-midi/id1066216595
…or ExpressVPN although not sure if that would work with the AppStore
It's gone, and Link To Midi is not a replacement unfortunately.
Hi,
Yeah thanks, i have it ,all ready tried it...too much drift. And it doest go both ways.in my case i use MLS to go from midi clock to link.No offsets. Also tried AB....glitches occurred in my system and no offset that I'm aware of.
Not sure how this would work? Do you mean another country's store?
Can anyone tell me if they see Midi Link Sync by Coding Cod in their country's store? I'm in US.
Thx for the replies.
Both Loopy Pro and AudioBus have a rock solid MIDI / Link implementation that can be used to connect the two worlds. If you use AudioBus, you have to allow background audio and have at least one audio track that is connected to an audio output - even if you do not use it. Otherwise you risk that the app goes to sleep when it is idle.
I am surprised that Audiobus was glitchy. Have you tried recently. People generally report it as being solid. It does have offset.
I'll try AB again....but the way I had the rig setup was working so well. Mwwwaaaaa....I want MLS:-) and to be able to update iOS and not worry about this apple crap. Just allow us to back up apps to computer.
The rig was/is...BM3 with tons of loops and a couple of aus loaded. A Yamaha multi pad w its built in sequencer and a connected foot pedal. And midifire. Its superb dynamic clock spitting midi clock. All this going thru an iconnectivityaudio4. I put on the left of my ac kit.
I tap the foot pedal 2 times! to set /change tempo....clock hits MLS which spits Link to BM3. Midi clock also goes to the yammys sequencer. I then hit a pad to start loops/tempo synced aus.
I can almost do smooth ritardandos.....really don't use that....I use it to sync to me.....drummer... and other guys in the band. We being human and all:-)
The main problem is the inability to revert an OS update, something which any serious operating system can easily do.
Hi,
Been awhile. On my air 1 I think. I'll try again. It coulda been PICNIC:-)
What he said!! Its kinda buggin me cause a few apps I want now require iOS 15. Arrgg:-)
I don’t see midi link sync at all. I see link to midi though and at least in theory it should have the same use? I haven’t used it for a while but it should be bi directional: link to midi and midi to link.
Ok, fair enough.
You could try miRack for the link-MIDI duties too!
You can back up apps to computer using iMazing but you have to back the apps up before they disappear from the App Store. You can even keep more than one version of the app backup so that it's possible to revert to a previous version if a new version is buggy or slips in subscription, removes features, etc.
The free version of iMazing is enough for this purpose.
Hi Wim,
I wish I had jumped on this before it disappeared. I did go check out imazing before all this and there was no mention of backing up apps. And in my Google research it seemed as there was no way....but I trust you Wim:-) Gonna try it even tho I maybe Sol on MLS.
And I can't seem to find the offsets control in AB. I see the sync settings but no offsets? Can anyone tell me if AB will spit out link from midi clock input and will do so without transport running?
Thanks to all...cept Apple...they got me again. :-) First time was worse when they KILLED Sound diver. I have a second PC running xp and Sound diver now. Bastards!:-)
Thx for all you guys replies and help.
It isn’t backing up apps it is archiving/downloading them from the App Store it is available in iMazing as part of the Manage Apps feature. Amazingly, apps are sometimes downloadable with the feature after they have officially been removed from the store.
The midi clock offset settings in AB:
Hi,
Thx espiegal123 for taking the time to show me...will check it out tonight.
@espiegel123 already covered the rest of your questions, I think.
I'm not sure what you're asking here though. Nothing really outputs Link. It's something that is either running or not running. It stays running outputting tempo and beat information until there are no apps active that are Link enabled. If Link Start/Stop is on in an app, transport will start or stop with Link's start/stop signal, and the app will generate start and stop signals from its transport.
If Audiobus is acting as a midi to link bridge, it'll update Link tempo in response to midi clock tempo changes whether transport is running or not.
If Link Start/Stop is enabled Audiobus will send start and stop signals to Link when your start and stop Audiobus transport.
I hope that makes sense.
Just a reminder. Add a "Speaker" output in Audiobus (with no input going to it). This won't output anything or consume resources but is needed to keep audiobus from suspending when in the background.
Hi,
Sorry i wasnt clearer.Your second paragraph is true. I understand all you say.
Well I tested and it was almost perfect......but AB doesn't seem to have a hundredths tempo value. Meaning it goes to 10ths . so its not really gonna work for me. Which sucks. But maybe I missed a tempo setting?
To be clear...midifires tempo is xxx.xx and so is beat maker and midi link sync.
Is there a way to contact apple and "appeal" MLS dissappearence?
Thanks to all for yore advice and time spent to respond to my questions.
Did you test that AB isn't accurately following the tempo..some apps display tempo at a lower resolution than they use internally.
Hi,
I'll check it again but it seemed to lose sync after about 40-60 bars. And that was a session where midifires clock was 1 or 2 hendreths slower than ABs tempo. 99.0 on AB and 98.99 from midi clock.I have to dbl check and 100% eliminate user error.
Thanks
I am pretty sure that the displayed tempo is unlikely to be the reason for the sync discrepancy. Anything synching to clock is supposed to be synching to the actual received clock pulses. Tempo displays are feedback to the user. Actual tempo is going to be somewhat jittery. This isn't to say that AB didn't lose synch just that I don't think the tempo display is the issue.
What was the setup for the test?
Hi,
Midifire dynamic clock....midi clock.....out to audiobus in. And also goes to multipad dtx12 .Link on in AB and beat maker 3.
No link start stop.
Edit I recreated the test again. With a pretty static tempo I could do what I need. It eventually goes off..drift....but I'm not using long timeline , just triggering loops. I'll have to do a video or something.
But when I used AB as the bridge and tapping large changes in tempi ,the dtx's click and BM3's click go way whacked. Especially with large reductions in tempo.
As I said, I'm gonna have to make a vid or some screenshots or something.
While using MLS now since updating BM3 to the latest is not as butthole tight as it was before over many many bars, its still way better FOR ME than any other option.
Man, I wish I knew about imazings abilities with archiving apps long ago:-)
