Video for Omenie's M3000 Ultimate Edition, Dripping With Retro Goodness
This is it then, the full monty, the motherload, the...Ultimate. All the IAP's in one huge package wieghing in at a whopping 1.2gb. This is also expensive but worth it if you like Mellotrons because this is about as close as your gonna get to owning the real thing. If you get tired of the demo, it does go on a while, skip to the last five minutes or so and you can here in action with Multitrack DAW, which at the moment works great with iOS 8 http://www.thesoundtestroom.com/m3000-ultimate-edition/

Gonna watch the video later tonight when I can actually hear it. But I'm also a total sucker for Mellotron sounds, always loved that sound for some reason. And I have this Ultimate edition too. I'm trying to finish a track that mostly uses the Sopranotron sound set so far, gonna sprinkle it with some Mellotron strings and be done (it was supposed to be something more electronic/glitchy/beat sounding thing first, but is turning out a proper gooey & muddy Enya track, dunno what happened lol). Anyway, awesome sample library at a really good price.
I agree Chris, the price does seem a lot, but when you consider what you get, and that these are the original sounds, its worth it, especially if you are looking for that very very particular sound and feel
I'd love to have this bundle, but I already own the main app and Sopranotron pack. Getting the remaining tapes would cost me $55, which is $20 less than the bundle but doesn't guarantee me any future tapes. I guess this is a bit of a bummer for those of us who have already invested in the app and IAPs.
Are there any exclusive tapes or features that aren't available as an IAP in the 50th Anniversary edition? I too have already got Sopranotron and a few additional packs for the M3000..
According to the app store description, if you do buy this version it also entitles you to all future tapes for free, you can check this out to make sure I havn't misread it, but I will also ask Phil tomorrow and get back, if thats true then it may be worth it, I will also ask if any previous IAP's are taken into account when this is purchased
Yes, please do let us know Mister Doug. Just bought the 50th edition yesterday....
Thanks Doug, as you'd say yourself, Lovely Job-bely!
@kgmessier, the ultimate edition does not include any future tapes does it?
edit: Ok, just re-read the iTunes info and it would seem that it does. Deleted a bit from this post that doesn't apply in that case.
Obviously, with future releases included indefinitely, that does make it a lot more interesting!
I bought the 50th anniversary app a couple of weeks ago and I'm thinking of getting the Chamberlain and perhaps the Soprano tapes, but I'm gonna need a bigger iPad first...
TBH, the Streetly and violin tapes don't do much for me, but I do love those early sounds...so I don't think I'll get the Ultimate pack anyway. Again, lack of storage space is a factor too.
@mmp: Get Sopranotron as a standalone rather than an IAP. Using it on top (or behind) the M3000 is great fun.
Hi all - Phil here, I'm the one-person coding house behind this app. Let me answer a couple of questions about pricing and future.
Firstly, this Ultimate is primarily to give me a way to put IAP tapes into the hands of magazine reviewers, 'VIP' user etc. You can't promo code IAPs, so this serves that purpose.
Secondly, a lot of people - I am one of them - are IAP refuseniks. I like to know that if I have bought something, I have actually bought it, and won't be under pressure to add bolt-ons. Given the chance I will discard a free App and buy the 'Pro' rather than buy IAPs. This is for new users who feel that way about IAPs.
Thirdly, price-wise, it is as close as I could get under Apple's quantized price structure to being the same number as all the tapes added up. So if you have a bunch of IAPs to hit Ultimate level, the intention was that you would not have overpaid - the same philosophy that puts the Caitlin tape at the same price as the Sopranotron app. Either way you go, you will not be disadvantaged.
And future tapes - yes, all future tapes are included in the price. Will there be future tapes - 99% certain that there will not be. This is an app that has been shipping for three years and does very low volume, it has become clear that the incremental cost of putting new tapes together does not justify the return. So it is easier to just say, this is it - feature complete, tape complete, and going forward I can focus on the maintenance needed to make sure it works under iOS 9 and 10 and beyond.
And finally 'can I get a discount because XXX' - no. There just isn't a way to make that work. You can't get a discount on your iPad when Apple bring out an iPad 2 6 months later, it's just how it is. But within the framework of how all this has to work under App Store rules, I have tried to make this as equitable and fair as possible, to make sure nobody feels aggrieved about price. Yes, the Ultimate is expensive - it has to be, it's the fair thing to do.
and Phil very kindly given us a couple codes so we can run a competition to win Ultimate, which we will be doing very very soon
@omeniesoftware - Thanks for the open and honest explanation.
I agree with @MrNezumi. He has a policy with a rationale and he came out and stated it without any fudging. Refreshing.
Yeah, it does make sense. But, I, for one, am glad there are IAPs, making it possible to pick and choose. ( which won't deter me from taking part in the competition for the Ultimate ;-) )
I agree with you (or my buying patterns would suggest that I do), but I still appreciate a developer who doesn't bullshit me with one face while looking off into the cash-distance with the other...
If you're a mellotron fan, that price looks quite fair. I don't need quite that much mellotron, so I love the fact that you've created some options for buying.
Thanks chaps, you've been understanding and not at all vile! Made my Saturday. p.s. have you tried an iPad through a MiniRig? Those things are insane.
