Older Drum Machines?

Love to the audiobus community!

i’ve been looking for old drum machine sounds lately and was wondering if there were any drum machines that emulate that 70s and even 60s, soft but quirky preset sound. i love those but can’t really seem to find anything on ios that really gets there.

any ideas would be appreciated thanks!

DM1 has lots of vintage drum machine kits. Not sure about 60s though but if anyone is a contender it just may have it.

Again... try out GarageBand. There are a ton of vintage drum machines you already have if you care to browse this free and often overlooked DAW.

  • If you have Korg Electribe Wave they’ve given us free samples of the Doncamatic – one of the oldest Japanese drum machines

    How about pulsar-es

    Edit
Nope to modern. It is from the early 90th. Sorry

  • Maybe look for some samples and load them into a drum machine that allows you to load custom samples.

  • Maybe try ioptigan.
It is not AUv3 but it is good sampler fodder.

  • Keep in mind, that app hasn't been updated in 6 years. That is basically a dead app walking at this point.

    Why bother??

I can also 100% recommend Funkbox! Great app!

Old, yes! Version 1.0 came 2010, but, lastest version (six years old) running perfect into AUM as instrument plugin, and stable.
I use it without any hussle on my M1 iPad Pro 12.9” - five bucks for this is really OK…

Patterning 2 is a great drum machine that can load almost 200 drum kits from their cloud storage. I can see there are several kits based on samples of old drum machines amongst them.
And you can contribute your own kit to the collection if you like.
The user interface is far from “classic”, but it’s in my opinion one of the best drum sequencers for iOS.
P2 is sadly not AUv3, but I think a Patterning 3 that includes AUv3 support is in the making.

  • awesome! thanks for everyone’s responses!

kinda thought about samples. funkbox is great. wanted to know if there is anything more that’s dedicated to these type of sounds with some tweakability. auv3 would also be nice too but beggars can’t be choosers. hopefully this thread can stay alive to see what’s out there.

  • Synth drum apps like Blipbox are pretty good at getting close to the sounds from old drum machines. And even if you don’t get close you usually get something equally cool.

If it works for you, that's great. But any app that hasn't had any updates in a few years is a dead app in my book. An app that hasn't even gotten a maintenance update in six years is an abandoned app.

But, the developer kept Funkbox updated and improved for more than eight years - so, perhaps there not much to add in this status.
It’s working, and working great with both M1 CPU and latest beta of iPadOS 17.4x, and the developer still has it available on Appstore.

For me an abandon app is an app not ready (featurewise, like Nanostudio v2), or an app disappearing on Appstore, but, Funkbox is working, and sounds great for my ears (retro drum machine sounds)…

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Works perfectly. It's only dead if/when IAA dies.
I don't buy IAA only apps any more, but no updates in 6 years isn't the reason if an app has had no problems to fix.
