StrongSoft Software plugins have been removed from the App Store!
Hopefully, it’s not permanent. But, if so..this would be the second NEW developer to iOS that we’ve lost. Modalics being the first, although Beat Scholar will continue to be supported..no new plugins will ever be developed for iOS. Just thought to mention it
Comments
Why we know why Modalics exited the iOS app market...?
Lack of support for Beat Scholar ..plain and simple. When I asked about mindSet Drums I was told they would no longer develop for iOS. They’ve had 2 releases since. We have to stop letting plugins die here on iOS. It may be a good idea to support IZotope before they cut the cord. It would be shame to not get the plugins we need due to lack of support
"lack of support" maning lack of sales?
Yes, sales were not great at all. Sometimes..we only have ourselves to blame
As a number of devs have mentioned, music apps serve a niche audience and almost none of the devs are getting rich creating the next Phaser or Delay. Even so, people cannot be expected to buy apps they don't need or want just to support a developer.
We are to blame? Not sure about that.
I think there are just too many iOS music apps and not enough customers. Neither is our fault.
Fair point and very true
I’m sorry to read this but I did feel this developer was making effects that many of us already had in the toolkit without much to separate them from the rest.
Modalics Beat Scholar on the other hand should have sold like hot cakes. Too bad.
You’re right..I’m just sorry to see any developer leave this platform. If that’s even the case here
I agree 💯
It must be worrying for our iOS music app developers. We all have so many synth apps, drum machines, FX, samplers etc... what can they develop to get our interest...
What makes this really weird is the dev had another plugin already in the bag.
The absolutely biggest struggle for us (already praising mobile music production) is the to convince others to join this mobile community…
Sure, a great desktop setup is something else, but, it ain’t the like the joyful and incredible experience we have on iOS!
Once in a while I meet people that is desktop musicians, but, often it’s not that hard to get a opportunity to show them what a decent iPad and a few great music apps can accomplish…
So, sure, the responsibility lay on us already convinced to make this mobile music making community grow…
It amazes me that some developers go to all the trouble of designing and making an app and then don't even have any promotion for it - not even a basic YouTube video (which costs nothing to broadcast internationally).
I have a feeling 'they' almost expect YouTubers and/or other Influencers to do the ALL the marketing/promotion for them...
...and if the app 'fails' it's the end-user/customers fault...
I totally 'fail to see the bigger picture' of many of the more recent app-releases, it's just more of the same old with an alternate skin/theme and a few extra knobs here and there?!
Sorry to say I don’t recognise any of those Apps so won’t really miss them …
well said.
thats why i focus on innovative developers.
we maybe all have the standart tools already.
homepage still online. maybe ios apps are not down forever.

Maybe it's just me but i think ios is caught in a little bubble currently. I want to be clear that i like this bubble, it's a neat moment in time.
Currently the ios DAW'S still don't really compete with desktop, because of this we don't see a large movement of user adoption because the music making paradigm is different on ios, it's not as straight forward, linear, music programming. Much more suited still to experimental, or live, or sequencer music. Logic is a good step forward (despite its mixed reviews) but without more desktop parity in process we won't get a ton more desktop converts.
That, mixed with the ultra low cost of apps compared to desktop means developers are stuck making low cost apps for a small pool of customers.
So it only makes sense to develop for iOS if it's out of love or you're basically a one person team IMO.
If prices go up well see more developers because of more money. If stable DAW'S that are optimized for touch screen and more desktop like workflows happen i think we'll see more users, meaning more sales, meaning more money and more developers.
These are just thoughts, i love ios, and i love all the apps and developers we have. Things will need to change if the platform is going to grow though, or else we'll always see developers come and go.
Couldn’t agree more on your opinions here…
I’m a positive guy concerning the future of mobile music making (also with or without silly AI implementations)…
ehm…i don‘t feel guilty because i‘m NOT buying every single app available.
This precisely is what has always totally baffled me.
Why are exact iOS equivalents of desktop plug-ins supposed to be TEN TIMES CHEAPER? This is frankly insane.
If anything, they should be ten times MORE EXPENSIVE than desktop because designing good touch interaction and working with the strange limitations of the iOS platform is HARDER than desktop... 🤷♂️
Exactly. iOS music is niche, yet cheaper?
Don't get me wrong, I'm partly here because of this strange pricing bubble we're in. I'm privileged enough to be able to buy anything i want at these prices, whenever i want it.
Realistically though prices could go up $20-30 per app and still be "cheap". People would be ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGED, half the current userbase would leave, and developers would still likely make more money and grow the platform because of it. Userbase would grow back because the platform is good. 🤷🏽♂️
This happens all the time when free software goes paid. It won't happen here i don't think, but it would certainly be interesting if it did.
It would probably be illegal for me to agree, but if it weren't, I would 😄
😂
Makes me sad to see developers go, but I'm never surprised.
We're not required to buy from anyone and i believe we should only support products we actually want to use. I also believe developers shouldn't bow to the peer pressure of cheap app pricing. Look at Pianoteq, they know what they want and are asking for it, people consider its value to them and buy if they want it. I'd LOVE to know their numbers...
At the last count I had spent around £1900 on ios music making apps. A lot of those I just bought to see what they were like and then never used them again. I have an Ableton licence for my desktop and around £200 of plugjns for it. If ios apps increased their cost 1000% then I'd spend a lot less on them, be far more discerning and expect a demo before I bought or a refund if I didn't get on with it. Gains always have a loss attached too.
Yes, I'm totally with you on the "demo" thing. That used to be "forbidden" by Apple's rules, but it isn't anymore... that's why I jumped in immediately and applied it to Meow!
Unfortunately it’s a saturated market, so newer products that overlap multiple existing ones are going to struggle. Not just on iOS either - the desktop market is pretty much the same.
So the solution is for developers to raise prices? I am highly skeptical of that. Where are these new purchasers for more expensive apps going to magically come from? Are the apps going to be much better than they are now? People have already said in this thread that iOS apps are often basically the same as desktop versions. So the iOS versions are (1) already just as good or nearly as good as desktop, (2) priced at 1/10 the price of desktop, and (3) developers don't make enough money selling them, and the conclusion drawn from that is (4) developers will make more money if they raise prices? How does that make sense?
I think I would agree with this part: "If stable DAW'S that are optimized for touch screen and more desktop like workflows happen i think we'll see more users," But I think the "more desktop like workflow" is not something that's going to happen on phone or tablet form, since it requires a keyboard and mouse/touchpad.
If this is a bubble, it's one that's been around for at least 10 to 15 years. It has existed from the beginning, and the entire iOS app ecosystem has developed within it. So the conclusion is that we need to pop the bubble that the iOS music app ecosystem has developed in?
Currently? And this current situation is one that hasn't existed for the entire time that iPads/iPhones and iOS music apps have been a thing? I would say that, currently, iOS DAWs compete with desktop better than they ever have.
