LPF with env triggered by midi

Is there an LPF auv3 I can add on to any other synth that has its own env but that uses the same note-on/note-off/velo etc info that the main synth recieves? Via some sorta AUM patching. That might be fun for a hybrid FM/subtractive sound.

  • If you are interested in this kind of patching, you might consider Drambo a worthwhile investment. The analog filters sound great, by the way.

  • I'll start by saying that any filter that exposes AU parameters can be used this way by adding a plugin that generates CC's according to a note triggered envelope. Two that come to mind are the MIDI ADSR Mozaic script, and Drambo. Drambo is the most flexible. I think FAC Envolver can be used for this too, but I'm having trouble at the moment remembering how to trigger the envelope via MIDI.

Generally, parallel route notes to the synth and to the envelope plugin. Then route the CC coming out from the plugin to the filter cutoff AUv3 parameter (or other parameter).

I'll sift through the filter apps I have to see which ones have their own midi triggered envelopes and wouldn't require an additional plugin. I know Drambo is one that can be set up as an effect this way.

  • Here's an example setup with Drambo acting as a MIDI Envelope generator. Notes are routed to Drambo and to KQ Dixie. CC 20 is sent out from Drambo to AUM Control of F-16's cutoff frequency parameter.

Maybe have a look at Velocity Filter

My apps with their own midi triggered envelope:

I didn't come up with a lot, but my inventory of filters is pretty limited these days.

Thank you all, this is perfect. KQ Dixie is my favorite synth. I'll get Drambo for it.
    Thank you 🙏🏻

    Yes!!!🙏🏻

    It works awesomely!

Drambo wubbing along like a champ

Like @bcrichards suggested, I use Drambo's own va lpf. I was struggling for the longest time since I didn't realize I had to instantiate a "Drambo (MFx)" and not "Drambo (Fx)".

  • That Fx vs MFx thing took me two hours to figure out 😭

  • Fun with fast attack although that particular arrangement doesn't really leverage FM, could be any sine osc in there 🤷🏻‍♀️
    Anyway, back to work 💁🏻‍♀️

  • The note itself can also influence various things in the VA filter!

Here I set it to be an additional influence on cutoff freq:

Another Drambo screenshot; cutoff has a patch from MIDI notes

    Fun fun fun ♥︎
