Simple midi looper?
Looking for a very simple midi looper app to use within AUM. Possibly similar to Loopy but with midi. No fancy editor etc. Just to record midi notes in real time as played.
I’ve tried most (i think).

Midi Tape Recorder
Atom 2
To be honest though? My preference is Drambo. There is absolutely nothing complicated to use it as you describe. It's my preferred midi option in Loopy Pro. Dead simple to use once you understand just a little about it, but can go deep too.
I used used Atom, looking for simpler, faster, without the bells and whistles. Drambo just not for me
Basically one of those Loopy like circle things lol
The closest to that you will get to that is Midi Tape Recorder.
Looks good will give it a shot. Thx!
I wonder why Fugue Machine cannot record in a loop.
To me it would be the most natural thing.
It's not working very well in Loopy Pro per my tests today. Hopefully it's OK in AUM though.
nvm. The problem was fixed by turning off "Send MPE config on play". It was telling iM1 that I was playing MPE when I wasn't.
There’s photon AU.
Helium, great app, but might be closer to Atom 2 then u want
LK but probably more then you are looking for…
Honestly I think atom 2 can be as simple as you want it to be, sure it can look intimidating and has a ton of great features, but if you just want to record, edit, and loop playback it’s probably my favorite.
Also
Loopbud by Cem Olcay is cool but a bit more limited then a traditional piano roll editor
Mozaic has a midi looper patch, but can’t see the midi.
Yea I typically switch off MPE in Atom 2, that way you can use all 16 midi channels for individual midi that you can send to 16 different instruments.
Loopy Pro does have MIDI recording on the roadmap…
miRack has the Holonic Systems’ Pantry looper. https://library.vcvrack.com/HolonicSystems-Free/HolonicSystems-Pantry
Totally! Would love this feature as well... I mean how rad to play your riff and then here it fray and come unravelled and reweave itself back again in that glorious FM way
Maybe @Alexandernaut would be so kind to give it a second thought? Just that one feature?
Photon Au ?

Many have been waiting for fugue machine midi input recording since the dawn of its time. Loopy pro midi recording would be fantastic.
And it’s buggy as heck…
Is it?
Not in my experience. Every issue I’ve run into has eventually come down to user error. I think Loopy may be dropping a note or two sometimes though. I need to test further.
MTR has been reliable for me. I am sure that the developer would be interested in a demonstration of any problems you encounter. He is quite conscientious about addressing issues brought to his attention.
Yes. At least in all the testing I’ve tried.
Load into AUM, send something like kb1 into it and then midi out to another AU track.
Arm a track in MTR… Press record… Nothing. Button won’t stay lit/active. Play won’t stay active.
Leave AUM and come back, and now it works for some reason…
There’s a lot of other weirdness, like you can’t seem to overdub, record turns off at end of track, etc. etc.
Basically it doesn’t seem to work at all how one would normally expect a looper to work…
Can’t get it to even do the most basic things… Basically it’s not really a looper. I guess it’s in the name… it’s a tape machine. So if you’re someone that can lay down a perfect track in one go, it’s great. 🙄 But at that point it’s basically indistinguishable from a normal midi sequencer with live recording.
I was going to say “ubiquitous Drambo comment” lol, but since giku added the piano roll it has become great for that as well.
Mozaic has a few great ones.
I wish Photon would get an update someday. It's a great note/CC looper.
But controlling it is a mess and very unstable.
GR 16 is a very impressive midi looper. 16 channels in/out note and CC
Just mute the audio.
Anything else that requires more steps i temd to skip.
And commit to audio will set you free
Well... to be fair, I can't remember it being advertised as a looper anyway.
Yes , it's a tape machine that simply records everything MIDI, even controller and MPE data, in DAWs that originally don't support it.
Some DAWs won't even forward such data to the plugin but that's another subject 😉
Note: I’m not familiar with loopers, so I have no intention of highly recommending ‘Nimble Looper’ below to OP (@hibjshop ). My intention is to fill in one blank in the list of MIDI looper apps on this thread.
-‘Nimble Looper’ is a sequencer script for StreamByter app. (iOS/iPadOS version is a free app. Mac version is a paid app).
-'Nimble Looper' is a factory preset of StreamByter, so users do not need to copy/paste/install/save its script.

With nimble looper script preset!
I love this free tool.
Still can't understand how Atom has 5000 buttons, of which the most essential ones off screen. And still it can't record CC data.😆
I bought Atom to be a real time Midi looper for my Yamaha Motif. This would allow me to set up to 16 Midi channels on the motif With hardware pushbutton control to select, record, or mute individual channels. Using Audiobus, I can use the atom to loop IOS synths, but I have had no luck, looping the midi back to control the motif. Does anybody know if this is possible?
Atom can record and play cc data. It can’t edit or display cc data. The developer planned to add editable cc’s but never got around to it.
