DrumJam is brilliant. And a LOT of fun!

Just felt like praising a cool music app. ..

I picked up DrumJam recently it’s amazing how functional and musical it is! Has loops and play along capability. And the instruments sound good. It really fills a hole I’ve had in my iPad music garden. Quickly bought all the extra IAP I could afford. It’s so fun just to jam with, but I will be using the instrument in my recordings.

If the app developer is on this forum, well done!

    Yeah, Drumjam is fuckin' great!!

Hold in mind that this app was released in version 1.0 already august 2012!

The developer, @sonosaurus is a legend!
His first app, ThumbJam is probably the first app to iOS that was really advanced , back in 2009 - love this!

It has been some talk and wishes that DrumJam could be supporting AUv3 in the future, but nothing is promised...

    Happy drumming!

  • I heard the auv3 was incoming too. Looks like it’s the year for drum machines

  • Sorry, whatever else you do and AUv3 or not, you make Thumbjam/Drumjam in this world and you walk right into heaven.

  • I think this thread is the ultimate definition of fanboi. Evil entities have entered our domain, and taken to using our terms in ways that complicate the line between insult and accolade. I believe now is the perfect time to take back this word and reinstate it at the top of the Tree of Admiration and Jealousy, (Disclaimer: Tree of Admiration and Jealousy is not a real tree. It's more like a large shrubbery.) Seriously though, you've gotta love your gear. If you don't it's not your gear. DrumJamming is good jamming.

  • Nothing ad lib or dynamic though (like Lumbeat drums)....you have to preset everything before you start, yes?

DrumJam? It has playable pads with awesome velocity layered drum samples in addition to the groove loops. It isn’t like the Lumbeat apps. A totally different beast.

My impression from what @Sonosaurus posted is that the AUv3 is playable drumpads that can load the DrumJam kits rather than DrumJam as an AU.

  • Totally. I love DrumJam, and I've been using it a lot recently, and also just created a video on it because I want to others to find it and appreciate and enjoy this amazing little app. There are a lot of really cool features in it that you can't find in other drumming apps, and it's so playable - I mean it's just calling you to jam on those pads!

That would make sense since the kits are a set of audio loops, and so the only MIDI note input/output would be with the pads, and that's already there.

Edit There's already a massive amount of MIDI controls built in to the current version, and it works fine with AUM and other host apps. This app was a model of great features and options for control via MIDI, and is still impressive. Having an AUv3 version of this that could play the drum loops and bring over the MIDI controls would be amazing. For me, the collection of instruments and the incredible drumming that was performed by Pete Lockett for the audio loops is the real jewel in the crown here.

Here's a quick snap of the MIDI controls. This is separate from the pads which can send and receive MIDI notes.

AUv3 would be nice, for now I’m very happy with the really stable IAA performance. Gonna pick up another gift card today so I can grabbed the last couple instrument IAP, maybe thumbjam also. Suddenly the iPad is looking like a real instrument to me.

I’m convinced. Picked up Thumbjam. WOW! Incredible app. What I have been missing out on. … The sounds are top notch and even respond to my tilting and shaking the ipad. I may never pick up my cheap penny whistles again.

  • Drumjam and Thumbjam are some of the best ios music apps there is.

Even though I don’t use Drumjam on a regular basis, Drumjam was responsible for sparking my interest in world percussion, and it’s everyday that I play or practice riddims in one way or another. Be it tapping for meditative reasons, finger drumming glass, or exploring poly2 or Euclidean .
I also bought an eight inch Djembe for my son and me.

haha, ok for sitting at home in the lounge room I guess...I'd like to see you using it on stage while playing keys, bass and singing! It's much like the guitar apps, fine if you can dedicate one iPad to playing it and you are not doing anything else, otherwise it all needs to be programmed. Clearly an app for recording only. Who knows maybe a Kraftwerk using all iPads might be a thing someday :)

You can send midi to it and play it from midi controllers. I know people that play it from drum pads and launchpads and with midi keyboards.

  • i haven’t played thumbjam in forever, but still love it. does anybody remember how to import samples ?

See ThumbJam ‘s built-in Help. It is covered there.

    ^^

But, if there's interest in more details about ThumbJam and how-to's and features, I have a pretty good collection of YouTube links and one of them covers that, but that discussion would belong in another thread.

  • The developer mentioned working on an au version of the drum pad section only from inside DrumJam like a year or so ago in this forum... @sonosaurus also said that any DJ IAPs will be allowed to transfer over to the new app. I’m guessing as long as it can get sorted with code and apple that this is still in the works…?

Any comments @sonosaurus is this still something on the roadmap?

Yes if I remember correctly it will only be the pad section at the bottom, not the instrument placement at the top.

  • Favorite advanced-level Sonosaurus moves:

Using Drumjam pads as a sound module for external midi.

Using Thumbjam as an audio-to-midi converter.
