Patterning 3 or Drum Scholar (beats and melodic sequences)
I own Patterning 2 and have been enjoying the Drum Scholar trial. I haven't done much with polymeters, but with how easy it is in Beat Scholar, I've definitely been expanding my horizons.
Thing is, I think I'd be hard pressed to buy both Patterning 3 AND Beat Scholar. Any thoughts on use-cases or reasons to go for one vs the other? If I had the cash I'd for sure get both. Thoughts on the kits, features, etc?
As some added context, I'm always on the lookout for drum sequencers that can do melodic duty, and Beat Scholar has been great for that because of the 16 vs Patterning's 8 notes. But find Patterning to have a more enjoyable process. I do like Beat Scholar's flexibility in terms of being able to throw hits from any midi note/sample on any pizza... I'm used to Patterning 2 as I've had it for a while so I'm sure that makes it smoother for me to use.
Ugh, if I didn't have car repairs looming on the horizon I'd just snag bothhhh 😉

Lmao; I thought a similar thing. With beat scholar , I see a parallel thing. So what would I do if I had both of them? Who knows? That’s sort of why I asked about smart randomization, which I wish beat scholar had.
Not much to say, I like both quite a bit. I think Beat Scholar may have been my favorite release of 2023. However, modalics pulled out of the ios market, and beat scholar does feel kind of unfinished. I like it enough to recommend still. Great concept and good execution. I really like the pattern and kit presets as well.
Yes, it does feel a little like Beat Scholar may have its days numbered.
Best scholar is sort of unfinished : they needed to tweak some stuff I agree. Can’t believe they are outta the game
