Digistix2
Hi,
I’m new to digistix and enjoy it but have issues looping my song chain. When I’ve watch tutorials if you have 6 patterns in the chain it will play to song chain 6 and go back to start loop…. Mine continues to play up to chain 16 even if they are empty. I can’t find options to change that anyone else had this issue?
Thanks.
Chris

I don't know how it is in Digistix 2, but in the original Digistix there's a Loop Song button to the left of the Available Patterns list.
**Edit: I presume you are using Digistix 2, but this will probably apply to the original Digistix as well.
You might have some "Empty" steps in the song chain. These will appear to be blank, but in actuality are marked empty and simply play silence. The way to find out is to tap the yellow number on the step in the song chain. If the short yellow line appears above the cell that means there is an "Empty" event in the cell. If you tap it and it pops up a message that there are no events in the step, then it should not play. If you press "Delete" on the left while the cursor (yellow line) is on the step you don't want to play it will remove everything - if there is a chord there, it removes the chord. If there's an "Empty" event, it removes that too, but be careful because it will advance the cursor left and it's easy to delete too fast and wipe stuff out.
The picture below shows more detail. In the scenario below, the song will play steps 1-4, then stop unless looping is on, in which case it will start over at 1. If you tap on step with no events in the scenario below, say step 9, which will pop up that same message and click "OK" it will then insert empty events up to and including step 9.
Thank you for the great explanation, this has sorted it. My fault for having empty events.
Glad to hear you figured it out.
Well said @EdZAB
Glad it helped. If you have any other questions on Digistix or other 4Pockets apps, I've got a lot of material and links for more details. I'm a fan of these apps. 😊
I have DigiStix 2 and it works fine for me standalone or in AUM. I recently tried to use it in a Garageband project but found that as soon as it is open as an AU in Garageband, samples would randomly trigger reversed - triggering the same note multiple times, it may play most of them correctly, but the odd one will be reversed. Velocity seems to have nothing to do with it, no samples are setup to play in reverse, and even adding notes to the piano roll, the first will always be correct - copying and pasting that note will keep them playing correct - adding a new note will play in reverse. 🤷♂️
Anyone seen this before and have any idea of a fix?
I've encountered this issue in other scenarios, so I am guessing it is the same here. According to Paul at 4Pockets, this behavior is explained in one of the videos on his channel, but I did not recall it, and he explained it to me, so I'll paste in his exact words below (which worked for me):
**To resolve this first select TRACK 2, then long press the TRACK button and set its output to CH1. In fact do this for all tracks containing drums.
The reason for this is that when recording output from DS2 into a DAW, it sends reversed hits out on CH2, the DAW records this and when sent back to DS2 it plays correctly**
Hope this helps. Let me know if not.
If you send notes on MIDI channel 2, the samples play in reverse.
It sounds as though maybe you're sending MPE to Digistix 2, which would explain the intermittent reversed notes when playing fast since MPE rotates channels when more than one note is played at a time.
Thank you for the good idea - I just checked and I have MPE support disabled for GarageBand so I guess it isn’t that though.
This sounds like it but I don’t think there is any option to edit the MIDI channel in GarageBand. Would certainly explain why it works perfectly without GarageBand. I’ll have a play later and see if I can figure anything out around this. Thank you 🙏
You can turn off MPE in GarageBand by first closing GarageBand, then open iOS Settings > GarageBand and turn off MPE controller support.
Or, if the MPE is coming from another app or controller, try to switch it off there.
