Back to iOS!

I've been on a music break for about a year.. been busy. Just mostly messing with my 404 mk2, koala, aum , loopy pro and moog synths.
My iPad was getting old and i just grabbed a new 12.9 pro because i wanted to mess with logic and.. get back into iOS music production.
There's been a lot of new apps since ive been away!
I can't decide between moog Mariana, dagger or butter synth! They all seem pretty amazing.
I'm open to anyone willing to give me their opinion on which synth i should grab to get back into this madness...

I'm leaning towards mariana or dagger i think, just because l've heard that butter is still a lil buggy...
I mostly make ambient downtempo stuff and lofi hiphop... I'm sure I'll end up with all 3 and more! But where would you start??

Comments

  • Copperhead looks cool too! There’s so much new stuff! I used to keep up and have everything lol now I’m the new kid again 😜

  • These are all cool synths you mentioned, but why not wait a few minutes more, Audiokit has a new synth called Nerd, a Nordlead inspired synth, and it’s about to be released in the App Store any moment, just waiting for the approval.

    See: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/59918/new-audiokit-synth/p1

  • Welcome back ReasOne!!

If it must be a new app and you already have Synthmaster v2, I should go for Moog Mariana first...

ButterSynth is great, but, there's something about that synth/UI I don't like - but it doesn't matter, Synthmaster v2 is still king in my life!

And, now when Korg iM1 is AUv3, that synth is high on the list too for using (cool sound)...

    Good luck!

  • Welcome back!

Yeah that 404mk2 sounds like a huge burden for you, especially now that you shelled out for a new iPad.
Which is why, as fellow AB brethren, I’m willing to pay up to $249 to relieve you of that burden.
    PM me the details.
    And you’re welcome 😉

  • It’s iOS, gotta catch em all!

  • King of Digital will be on sale for $5 whenever Apple approves Nerd Synth. I know I'm biased, but I think KoD is a steal at that price.

  • @reasOne ! Welcome back! It’s been a minute… I hope life has been treating you well!

I’d definitely grab Dagger because, well, you know, Beepstreet. (Not to mention that it’s amazing!)

Mariana is also amazing though, so might wanna grab both eventually. Also, i don't know if you saw, but the MoogerFooger pedals have all been released as well.

    Buttersynth is okay

Korg finally updated Gadget and many of the gadgets can now be used as AUV3 instruments in other hosts! Big news I know!

There’s been some awesome IAP additions to Tera Pro (FM, Rings, Brainz)

    Also check out 4Pocket’s “RingsFX

Fabfilter’s Twin 3??? (Part of the Creative Bundle now)

There’s been so many effects and MIDI processors and such. Definitely check out the “AudioThing” dev for one.

And of course Logic is now here on iPad as you mentioned. Yes, it’s also amazing, but honestly, I’ve subscribed for the first year, but haven’t really been into it as a much as I thought I would. I’ve been more into the modular stuff, and have been spending a ton of time in Drambo.

Drambo is what I reach for, I’d say 99% of the time. If I had to choose only one desert island app, Drambo would be the one… without hesitation!

I’ve still been here on the forums (and also the Beepstreet forums), but have been taking a year and a half long break from uploading and publishing things every other day.

This provides so much more time for the actual music making, theory study, and open experimentation.

There’s only so many hours in a day, and working a full time job in the real world, supporting a family, and y’know, life, there’s only so much free time at the end of the day.

So by cutting out all of the:

    1. uploading
    2. writing descriptions
    3. publishing to multiple platforms
    4. sharing
    5. creating forum posts,
    6. doing write ups, (and all while hoping there’s going to be someone on the other end that’s willing to listen… and if they do, and take the time to leave a comment on it…
    7. being there to give thanks, and
    8. engaging with those who were kind enough to offer an ear and a few words.
    9. Worrying about how many “likes” a video or piece of music gets,

… by cutting out all of that, I’ve given myself so much more free time, and freedom to enjoy the actual music creation process, and don’t have all of the pressure of racing to complete something.

Anyway, why am I talking about me? This is about YOU lol 😂 welcome back bro!

  • Welcome back! Tera Pro for lots of options. Dagger is great too

  • I’m a sucker for good sounding filters, and all three of those sound great.
Buttersynth is the best all round synth though. Very Comprehensive.
If I could only have one it would Be Dagger. I personally would rate them in order of preference..
Dagger, Mariana, Buttersynth, but I make squelchy acid house, buttersynth is overkill for most my needs, but its fantastic.

  • @reasOne another one, I don’t know if you’ve seen/heard; Hilda!

  • Believe it or not, but it’s iPadOS. ;)

  • Tera Pro with IAPs.
    NoInputMixer.

    Welcome back!

  • Welcome back @reasOne

  • As Alexander mentioned above - I forgot another big big favorite to me, FabFilter Twin v3 - fuckin’ awesome!!!

  • Haha i knew i came to the right place to just be told i need them all! Haha

Great to see you guys again! And much appreciate the feedback.. i see you all want to keep me broke 🤣

  • Now I’m looking at all the other synths mentioned like.. i should have never taken a break 😭🫣🤣

  • Mariana won today! I had to complete my moog collection.
Fab twin 3 might be the next up. The demos sound really good and it looks fun!

I like this post. The info and the enthusiasm

One thing about Twin 3, make sure you have:

    1. An Apple Pencil
    2. Good eyesight

Ok, that was two things, but yeah, all of the controls are real tiny.

Alright, three things now that I’m thinking about it, and I just checked to make sure it was still true; Twin 3 doesn’t support multi-touch! You cannot turn two knobs at the same time.

Hey! Good to have you back, well Mariana almost require the foogers .. what a fantastic suite/combo it is. It stands on it's own of course but when the family share their tentacles (and lfo's whatnot), oh boy.😂😂
