Is there a Universal AUv3 Granular that can retrigger from the grain start?
I own Spacecraft, Tardigrain, and forget what else I’ve had and deleted. Spacecraft and Tardi still get my usage, but aside from sync, I always thought it’d be cool when you play a note, it restarts from a location of your choosing. I’m currently getting around this by resampling SpaceCraft into the Flexi module inside Drambo and offsetting it.
I tried and succeeded in Drambo with a wavescanner module, but despite the wavescanner module’s description, it DOES NOT sound smoother than a granular. Quite the opposite. Unless I’m using it wrong.
Thoughts? I’m on iPhone BTW.

Take a look at 4pocket’s wavecloud.
I’m not certain of the the exact steps to create this, but my memory is that you can set variable start positions a number of different ways, including keyboard tracking.
Flexi can also be used in a way to sound more granular-like. I do prefer the smoother kinds of granulizing (like in Spacecraft) too.
Anyway, Quanta can modulate the grain position by one of its envelopes for example. Is that what you mean?
No, I meant a sample start position for whenever you play a note. I notice in SC that the grains are tempo locked which I like, but continually scan regardless of note on/off. Quanta is iPad only 🙂
EDIT: I realize there can’t be such thing as a sample start because of the multiple grains, but all grain related settings seem to be relative to other grains, but like an absolute position to retrigger from whereby all other grains use a relative incremental mode to abide by the settings, such as scan width, number of grains, ect.
I hope my attempt at explaining isn’t further obcufspypysing things. 😬
By adding another modulation to Flexi's offset, you could do just that - if I understand correctly.
I'd start with a Graphic Envelope as a source for offset modulation, triggered by Note Ons.
Could it be done with iDensity?
Yea I was gonna say quanta, I think that would work.
@drconfusion
You’re right. The orbit seems to achieve my desire. However, I decided I won’t be purchasing. I own many of Paul’s apps and don’t regret buying any. I appreciate your suggestion I do. But I had watched Paul’s walk throughs, as well as Doug’s. Call me crazy, but to me, it seems every single sound source used in all three videos sound harsh, even the birds and rain sound files. Whereas to anything I’ve ever thrown at Spacecraft, including abrasive sounds, results in soothing sounds after tweaking, and that’s all without pitching down.
@rs2000
I always enjoy recreating any of your screenshot modules from any thread, even when not directed at me. I’m especially enjoying the one implementing the wave table oscillator from the analog console plug-in thread. As for the one in this thread. I will keep it as a building block to keep coming back to wherever I have another idea to try as I continue to learn Drambo.
@skiphunt
None of the videos I’ve watched seem to indicate that it can. Nor does it even seem capable of being played from a keyboard. Thanks though for chiming in.
@Poppadocrock
Quanta is not universal. Thanks though ‘preciate you.
In conclusion I’ll continue to resample Spacecraft into Flexi and offsetting to my desired position. I can do it kinda quick now.
Especially for a small phone screen, SC is painless experience, even if it has much less features then anything from 4 pockets, with the exception of RingsFX.
Cheersesses.
I might've been thinking of the sample player app that comes with apeMatix, but I'm not even sure that would do what you are trying to do.
Have you looked into FRMS from imaginando?

Wavecloud is definitely the answer here, and certainly doesn't sound harsh in all instances, but it would be a bit of a pain on iphone only. I can respect that you've decided against it though.
Alternatively, I'd have a look at Samplewiz 2. It has a similar "orbit" to WaveCloud, and the interface is quite decent on iphone.
Just to be clear, so you need granular, which will always start from the same position of the sample for each note played but still be pitch shifted, not frequency shifted? And work on the iPhone.
The best bet is the FRMS! You even have four layers to spice things up!
BTW, every granular synth should be able to do this, but not FX ones.
Edit: I just noticed that @skiphunt already suggested the same thing. Sorry!
Thanks!! feel so dumb. I went to the App Store only to discover that SampleWiz 2 has been on my phone the whole entire time.
And because I already have Bleass Granulizer, I had completely forgotten about the granular mode inside SampleWiz!! And then there is cloud mode to behave like a typical granular.
Yes perhaps I was being harsh when I said that wavecloud sounds harsh.
I’m convinced that UI design can alter subjective perception of sound. I’m guessing after all filters and effects are taken away, all grain engines are created equal.
Thanks again @skiphunt and @Luxthor , I watched a FRMs video and it sounds very nice and also is more complicated more my current needs. I did add it to my wishlist for the distant future. It seems very appealing.
For now I’m happy to learn SampleWiz 2 provides what I want and at no cost out of my pocket and I’m glad something old will be getting use finally. I appreciate that tip regarding granular synths vs granular fx @Luxthor .
You must be aware that SampleWiz2 got left without “modern” mode, in simple words, SampleWiz2 is unable to musically pitch shift formants and harmonics. It’s a plain chipmunking sampler now. 🫣

Lol, happens to me all the time too. So many apps bought and not really used, and then one day i need a feature and find out I've had it for 2 years. 😂 Glad Samplewiz might fit the bill for you.
I agree with you on interface affecting our perception of the sound of quality of the app. The 4pockets apps are all pretty good sound wise but suffer on the UI for sure and they usually fall out of use for me because of that. I've made exceptions for WaveCloud and RingsFX though. Wavecloud has absolutely pioneered the most unique and flexible granular system I've ever seen. Nothing else can touch the things you can do with its Waveglide features. And RingsFX is just too gorgeous to pass up.
I just read that thread. No, I was not aware, but for the way I use granular, it’s quite all right. For example, with SpaceCraft, even though it has a keyboard, I just like to find that sweet spot for texture and be able to repeat with in a not so obvious rhythmic sense it at will. Thanks all the same!> @Tentype said:
Yes, it seems very cool that you can record and append to the same file from within wave cloud itself. That combined with the wave glide feature? Cool.
