Allow me to be the first to say CONGRATULATIONS
EPIC ALBUM!
I'll be definitely listening tomorrow morning while working 👍
Congrats on the release !!
F.D.T.
Thanks! Appreciate it!
I’m glad you liked it too, thanks for listening.
Congratulations. Lots of filthy tracks on this one! 🔥🔥🔥
Cool!! Thank you — hope you like it :-)
YouTube video Playlist:
The songs should all be on YouTube too, I haven't had the creators page assigned to me yet so not sure if I can merge them? Wouldn't make sense not to be able to. I'm figuring out all this stuff as I go!
It’s a fantastic album, it was pure enjoyment to listen to. The songs I like the most are “Lies” and “Angel Machines”. Bravo! 🤩
Your style reminds me of bands like “Leftfield” and “Orbital”.
Congratulations, and I wish you many more good albums like this one.
Thank you! On the one hand it’s absolutely no big deal — everybody does it these days, on the other it’s a bit bizarre to be an official rock star now!
indeed. Free Dumper Trucks for everybody. :-)
Thank you and thanks for listening. You're SOTMC was a real inspiration and definitely helped me get back into being productive again, so the album is partly your fault :-)
Don't worry, I will be suing you for my share of the royalties 🤨
I hope you’ve got a big suitcase for the massive pile of cash this album is going to generate! It’s going really well so far. I’ve had 2 streams on Spotify already!!
this is my first post and i’m glad i spent it on you. you did a very good job with your album. it is pretty much the kind of music i want to make. i don’t quite know how to do it yet but it is reassuring to know that it can be done. i am inspired. thanks for sharing your music!
That’s roughly what I’m expecting from the first months streams. ;-)
If you get lucky enough, maybe you will catch Travolta?! 😂
Thank you for saving your fist post for me, and thanks for the kind words.
I’m glad it’s inspirational — one step at a time and you’ll be making this kind of music in no time. There’s lots of help available on the forum, make sure to ask if you get stuck!
I’ll try not to. Don’t want his cult-lords after me :-|
I never ever thought about this. Disturbing. 😵💫
yeah! i was just using this place as a resource for cool apps and great deals but i am realizing quite a few people here know quite a lot.
if you don’t mind, were there any apps or plugins you found indispensable when working on your album? or anything that just glued everything together and the whole process just started to fall into place? i am having a lot of fun making noise and learning but i haven’t reached the point where it all ‘clicks’ and makes sense composition-ally.
I enjoyed listening to this album. It has an epic feel to it. I really enjoy the second track. Congratulations. I will be revisiting this album.
For me I make all my songs in Logic. Most of the time that’s on the Mac.
I do use iOS a lot and there are lots of bits of music I made on my iPad and iPhone in the album.
I would make loops and stems in various apps and then put those loops into BlocsWave on my iPhone. That served as a musical notepad and let me very quickly listen back to what I was working on and jam out arrangement ideas.
The first song finished on the album was ‘Lies’ and it started off as a different song 100% on iPad. When I was playing with that song in BlocsWave it started going off in a different direction by adding elements from different bits of song to it. I then got the idea for the finished song and took all the loops into Logic on the Mac and finished it there.
The intro synth with the gate fx is Icegear Lagrange and the drums are Ruismaker. The rest of the song ended up being made with stock logic plugins (alchemy and vocoder mainly).
Thank you! And I’m still made up when anybody wants to listen more than once :-)
,i didn’t understand when you talked about your album. I hadn’t noticed you posted that. Then I discovered you’re Meester Smith. The production is wonderful with clarity and great sounds. I listened on my AudioEngine speakers en plain air.
I listened to the first track looking at this….
A perfect setting for that music and the Raindance to come.
I really think this album is one of the best I’ve heard on the forum and doesn’t do badly in the real world, too.The orchestration on Lies is perfect, as well as the Laurie Wnderson like chorus. Wrong is absolutely right. lol, I wish someone had explained that to me that years ago.It really is on a professional level all around.
Is this you singing? Every song has its own character but is part of a whole. It is very worth the time.invested. Congratulations! Ikm confident, like @richardyot, your output will increase.
It was a fun listen!
thanks for responding. i always find it fascinating to hear another’s process. you made me realize that i have been putting too much effort into ‘finding’ a song and maybe i should just let a song come to me.
Wow, thank you. That's really nice of you to say. I'm glad that it sounds professional to you. That's quite the compliment from you.
The vocals on "Rain Dance" and "You" are from Sarge, the singer of my old band "Burnt Earth". Both those vocals were lifted from old songs and re-purposed and re-imagined. “You” has a story behind it if you're interested.
All the rest is me with a vocoder. I can't sing. I much prefer vocoder to auto-tuned vocals and try to keep the vocoder to a minimum -- just enough to be interesting, not too much to be annoying.
And then Speak and Spell machines fill in the gaps ;-)
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for taking the time to listen and comment. I appreciate you taking that time more than you might think :-)
You’re welcome, bro. Get going on number two. Time’s a wastin!
I’ll aim for 4 years. That’s 20% faster. :-)
I have at least two songs for an EP and another album of ‘Burnt Earth’ songs coming I make with my old band mate — so things are going ok.
I also have the collaboration I did with JanKun which needs to be released — maybe as part of a collaboration EP?
I can only speak for myself but that’s exactly what worked for me — I went a good few years without making music (having children is a hobby-killer ) and when I tried to start again I couldn’t get going.
I still liked messing about with music so I just made lots of ‘bits and bobs’ of songs mainly in various iOS apps. But that was getting me nowhere until I started rebuilding all those bits of songs in BlocsWave and mashing them all together.
As I mentioned earlier, that’s how ‘Lies’ formed and from then it got easier. This album has taken 5 years from when I made ‘Lies’ and the pace of new songs has accelerated quite a lot.
Posting in Richard’s SOTMC helped a lot. To start with I was managing a song or two a year and recently I’m able to post every month. Seeing Richard post every single month without fail was pretty inspirational.
I’m not suggesting anybody copy my methods but they might help find your own path? Whatever happens, don’t force it. It will come. :-)
When I wasn’t inspired to write songs (or the music I was writing wasn’t that good) I’d be happy to just play about with sounds. Load up a drum machine and just jam. Mess about with standalone apps like Ampify Groovebox or Reason Figure for example and just play. If anything interesting came out of those jams I’d export a loop as audio.
Same thing playing about with AUM (which is great but I categorically can’t make actual music with it — just idea started and sound design for me) I’d record little stems and put them into BW.
and when i did have the idea for a song being able to play it instantly in BW and work on arrangement ideas on my iPhone was great. That way I only opened Logic on my MacBook once I already had the start of an idea.
Now I’m happy to load up Logic and just start creating again. The path to that was pretty long but fun the whole way.
I’d listened to a number of the tracks already but listening to them again in the context of the album just reinforces how good they all are. A very distinctive sound and great visuals as well.
Well worth the wait… 🙏
