Importing EXS files from Pianobook into Decent Sampler iOS
Is there a standard method to import EXS files into Decent Sampler on iOS? I've downloaded an instrument that appears to only be available in EXS format - this one:
https://pianobook.co.uk/packs/yamahac7/
Decent Sampler does not seem to allow importing files with EXS extension. I found a few threads here about it, including the one below, but maybe I'm missing something. I've tried importing it as a zip, also renaming the ZIP to .dslibrary extension. In both cases it fails to load. I reviewed the log and it just states that the files are not found.

Edit: Fixed typo

Hi. I don't believe Decent Sampler can accept EXS files as they are. Fudging the file type, etc., does not help. At minimum, you'd need to create a .dspreset file listing the sample files, their note and velocity ranges, etc. You could start with a roughly similar .dslibrary and rebuild it with the new data. Bit of work, though. A desktop dev may have created a program to do this.
Thanks @uncledave!
There’s valuable information in the forum link you posted. There’s a YouTube video posted by @david_2017 that has a method of converting EXS24 to dslibrary. As @uncledave mentioned, it does take quite a bit of work. At some point I tried and failed to convert a Kontakt instrument to dslibrary and haven’t attempted to correct my errors (since I didn’t know what I was doing…. at all). If you have the time and patience you should be fine.
In my process I’ve used the Numbers app & Textastic to create a spreadsheet and xml file for the sample files, velocity, etc. That’s where I got lost in my process.
Check out the Synthesizer Writer blog & the Decent Sampler Developer Resources page for further info. Both sites have a wealth of information and hopefully can assist you in your conversion process. Best of luck
Wow - thanks @dogonBeats - those are some fantastic resources. 👍
No prob @EdZAB … let me know how you made out. Once I find the time I’ll continue my venture in converting & creating instruments
The conversion seems like a lot of work... Especially when an app like Audiolayer can import EXS without much hassle. Not free though...
I didn’t realize AudioLayer was capable of importing EXS file. That would cut out majority of the work. Thanks
Importing EXS into Audiolayer used to be fiddly up at the begining but Harry released a serie of updates more than a year ago that made the process pretty straightforward. If you use the search engine you should be able to find the thread with detailed information.
Thanks @JanKun - I'll check that out and see how it works. I've got AudioLayer, so easy enough to give it a try. If I have some good results, I'll post them here or maybe create a video.
