Horizon / #75
Well, I have a goal of 100 albums before I croak, so I’m 75 and this is my 75th album. Will I have to live to 100? I hope not. A better question is will I have the will to keep doing this stuff, because will is everything. I believe, to a great extent, we will our lives ito existence, for better or worse.
Many might argue with this as life is so unpredictable, random and seemingly unfair. I only know from my own experience . But, arguably, even for me, life takes turns I don’t expect. These anomalies lead me to suspect that will is, often separated from the conscious mind. That it sometimes works contrary to our perceived thinking and wishes.
For example, I thought I would die when I was 71. I won’t go into details, but, suffice to say, I was absolutely sure of it. Circumstances, however, changed all that and I am still here, tap dancing. I must admit I tried to force my life trajectory into a box. I used “simple”, “rational” logic. It made sense and I was willing it to happen, I thought. But will and rationality can go in contrary directions, it seems.
Humans are at a loss when it comes to figuring this stuff out. Einstein said something like we cannot solve the problems we create with technology using the technological tools we possess. We need a more advanced technology to do that. Similarly, I’m thinking, I cannot figure out my own messy being with the conscious tools I possess. I could have tried harder to clean up the mess. But I’m lazy. I guess I’m waiting for the mess-iah to fix it for me.
Meantime I look on the horizon, planned or unplanned, ahead. Thx for listening.

75 albums! Wow.
I’ve only just managed the 1 so far — just uploaded the other day. I’m 20 years behind you so I don’t think I’ll catch up!
Congrats. Have bookmarked— will listen later for sure.
2 tracks in — makes me wish I hadn’t stopped taking piano lessons as a kid. Lovely playing — as always — and a gorgeous piano tone.
Thanks for the listens @klownshed. I hope the rest will yield some pleasant surprises.
As to my output, I can do it because every note is improvised. Little did I realize when I was learning how to do such stuff how key it would be for me when I discovered iOS. It was just the fodder I needed to create orchestrations decades later. If I had to rely on thought out, composed content it would have been impossible. A lucky break.
we all take different paths. I’m not able to improvise an entire song — my ‘improvisations’ get recorded then iterated upon. My one and only released solo album so far took 5 years. But I got a huge sense of satisfaction pressing the ‘distribute’ button and having the cathartic feeling of having finally finished! I’m not bothered how few streams I’ll ever get. Hopefully the next one will take less than 5 years. I’ve a good feeling it will.
The rest of your album is queued up in Bandcamp app ready for when I’m able to stick AirPods in :-)
I only had time to listen to the first track, but it’s quite lovely. I promised the boss we would go out for sushi tonight. Have you ever thought about getting together with a singer? This reminds me of the night we saw Tony Bennett at Ravinia. It was just him, a piano player, and a bass player. What a night!
I hear you regarding a purpose in life. I often think my purpose was to help someone else through a tough time. That has happened more than once. I’m glad I was there.
Oh well, we’re off to Oishi Sushi. They’re the best. Have a good one!
75 sounds like a milestone! I predict that you'll reach 100 albums in less than two years.
"Will" makes me a little uneasy. Is that the same as willfulness? I've gotten into too many problems/troubles from willfulness.
When I was very young I liked reading Green Lantern comics where his powers came from directing his will. Maybe that's what you're talking about.
I agree with @Paulieworld that vocals would be an interesting addition.
congratulations on number 75! best of luck on meeting your goal!
Thanks @Paulieworld @MrStochastic @JodorowskyV . i worked with singers a bit in yrs gone by. Here’s a brief example with Dori Levine…

Just listening now - awesome achievement. Keep it going 👍
Thank you @richardyot. I’ll give it my best shot.
Listened to the album. Sounds great. It’s more diverse than I was expecting after the first couple of piano pieces. ‘Snow on Eyelashes’ takes an ambient ish turn then we get more piano that morphs into an orchestral piece before the finalé which is a bit like a 1970s dark movie about a down and out detective out late at nights in an American city.
Nice journey — good album. I can’t promise that I will listen to every song on each of the other 74 albums though I’m afraid! By the time I get to album 35 you’ll be in at least number 80! :-)
Thanks for listening @Klownshed. lol, don’t listen to them all! I would recommend Pictures At a Planetarium and Dinosauria from a couple of years ago for electronic music. The recent dozen albums are more polished, I think.
Another great album Mike. I always enjoy the slow ones so Cascadence and Horizon did it for me but Neshama was up there as well.
Your seem to be averaging about an album per month at the moment so you’ve only got a couple of years to go… no problem 😊
Or adopt a prog rock style one track per side I.e. two tracks per album and you’ll crack it this year ✌️
Thank you for listening @GeoTony. The next is in the hopper. All electronic this time. Let’s see if I make it to my goal. Meantime, keep on shredding!
