Best harpsichord?

Does anyone know what the best app is for harpsichord? Something with midi control, on the 'Bus, and quality sounds. I wish there was something on Thumbjam or even GB, but sadly nothing. Need to get my baroque vibes on :)

There's some good harpsichord soundfonts if you have BS-16i. Try Chorium, sinfon36, Roland sc-55, Sonivox gs250 soundfonts for starters.

  • There are a couple of harpsichords in Sampletank too.

NTBYF too. Basically these are all similar samples.

  • Ok thanks I'll check these out! I just deleted SampleTank but need to put it back on.

  • I'm partial to the SampleTank 8'4' Harpsi patch myself. The Chorium patch is nice but has a more lo-fi sound to my ears.

  • Great! Yes I'm after hi-fi, want to hear that harpsichord mechanism working.

  • One thing I have yet to hear in an app, soundfont or VST is the sound of the plectrum resting on the string when the key is released. For all the authenticity some of these samples have, none has captured that tidbit.

  • Someone should just sample every note on the harpsichord with multiple mics. If I actually come across a genuine working harpsichord I might just do that..

  • Yes this looks amazing, been checking it out but need to save up a bit!

  • Ruckers 1628 - without exception. I hesitated but bought it just before the intro. sale ended. Fabulous.

  • I grabbed it pre-sale as well, but it's so good I'd grab it at full price as well. Add an IR and you're instantly transported to a Viennese lord's parlor.

    Absolutely @kgmessier !

Did the following little snippet using it as a quick test - (I posted the other day in another thread, so, apologies for the repost here but for those who are still considering...)

"An improvisation using the new Ruckers 1628 Harpsichord for iOS from Tempo Rubato and a cello part from Thumbjam. Recorded in Cubasis on an iPad mini Retina."

Trying to get my head around what my body would think or feel about finding itself in the Viennese parlor of a Lord.....

  • I would love it if someone would create a soundfont or app of the Baldwin Electric Harpsichord (or maybe a port of EastWest Fab Four to iOS?)

Here's a test I did all in MultitrackStudio using a midi file, soundfont + altispace:

And the same song in the Tempo Rubato app for comparison:
