Vocal synth engines - general discussion (ios & desktop)
Hello all!
I just started dipping my toes into the voice synth pool and was wondering if anyone would be interested in having a general thread to discuss them. Reviews, tips, tricks, and anything else that comes to mind.
To start with, here are some apps and vsts that I know of:
iOS apps:
- iVoxel - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/ivoxel/id382428641?see-all=reviews
- I was looking for 4pockets lyricist, but I'm not sure if it's been removed: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1554254950
Desktop:
- Emvoice
- Synthesizer V
- Vocaloid
- CeVio
- Chipspeech
- Utau (free)
- Open Utau (free)
- Synth U (by the Utau dev, not yet released)
- Cantor 2 by Virsyn (not sure if free): https://www.virsyn.net/desktop/legacy-apps.html
Edit:
It might also be worth it to post an example of how they can sound. This is one of the best I've heard so far (a cover of Adele's 'Easy On Me':

Don’t really get the point of AI vocals. The Koala Speak and Spell samples are more my speed.
I do like Micah’s choir on Decent Sampler though, and Vocal Synth is pretty good for robot vocals.
I think synthetic voices in music production are going to get a major boost soon with AI added to the mix.
I can only speak for myself. I've become interested in writing lyrics and hearing them sung, but I don't want to sing them myself. I also don't have ready access to a vocalist. Some synthetic voices sound good enough to at least put a test track together.
Oh, I didn't know about this. Thanks for the tip!
As it happens, SynthV is using AI with some voicebanks.

Begun, this A.I. war has.
