how long before things are going to work again?

This has been such a drag. I just want things to work like they did before all these updates involving iOS8. This is a fiasco. The combination of iOS8, the recent Audiobus updates and the music app updates have left nothing but a huge mess. I waited on updating to iOS8, but then iOS7.1.2 stopped working. How long do you think it will be before things settle out? I'm incredibly frustrated.

  • I updated my iPhone 4S on the first day but have yet to update my iPad 3 because of the music stuff. App updates have been coming steadily but slowly so it could be a while depending on what you are using. I probably have at least half a dozen apps that I'd hate to lose that haven't been updated yet.

I might buy a new iPad as soon as they are available, which could be in just a few weeks now. If that happens then I get updated to IOS 8 no matter what. If that doesn't happen I will probably update before the end of this month regardless. There's actually a bunch of features in iOS 8 that would be of great use to me so I'm not going to wait forever.

If I were to guess I would say you might have to wait until the end of this year before you can update and expect just about everything music-wise to work. At least everything important anyways.

  • I agree that the process is frustrating. I usually take the plunge on updates early but I'm holding off on updating to iOS8

With that said, I want to commend @sebastian and the Audiobus team for their work during this update. They went out of their way to a) explain the ramifications of the update, b) publish a lot of nice-looking documentation to show folks what is ready/what isn't.

  • Unfortunately, it seems many people who HAVEN'T updated to iOS 8 are having issues with updated apps. Anyone paying attention would have seen warnings for weeks about holding off on upgrading the OS, but there were no warnings that updated apps would start showing problems in 7.1.2.

  • While that true, personally I saw that as an inevitability. The differences between iOS 7 and 8 were major enough where dual-compatibility was going to be difficult for many apps.

imo, for now, staying on iOS 7 is the lesser of two evils

  • Agreed. For now. Waiting for the tipping point and looking forward to the Spring...

  • It's not just staying on iOS 7, it's also being very careful about updating your apps.

  • Still on 7.1.2. I have all my non-updated apps backed up on my laptop. So I assume that can delete a problematic iOS 8-updated app from my iPad and reinstall the older version with iFunbox. At least that's my current plan.

  • Oops. It's some other program on my PC that allows me to install an app on my non-jail broken iPad. Not iFunbox.

I stayed on iOS7 for a while, but did not expect that updating apps would screw everything up. I moved to iOS8 out of desperation. i regret it. I am infuriated that developers were not prepared to have their music apps work in time for the new iOS. Commend them all you want, but I feel it is plain old incompetence that things are the way they are. I've never seen an iOS update cause this much disruption. And it never should. How many months in advance did developers have the iOS8 specs? At least six, from what I have heard. As a customer, this breakdown between iOS8, Audiobus and the music apps is downright appalling. They should all be working day and night to fix it. I have a lot of money tied up in this technology, and I have shows that will be sub-optimal because of this incompetence. Please, Audiobus, figure out your end quickly. Any instrument/effects developers out there reading this, please get your shit together ASAP. We deserve the things we have purchased in good faith to work right. And if anybody from Apple is reading this: perhaps you might consider chilling out on the yearly iOS updates. They screw shit up for months. What's the point? If it ain't broke, leave it the fuck alone. Thanks so much!

  • AdamMatza1967 writes, moved to ios8--WHY?,--ios7.1.2 stopped working HOW?,You appear to be familiar with Audiobus however you only joined the forum Oct 6 which is unfortunate ,as there have been tons of information and warnings re.updating to 8.just yet (Sebastian)(Saint Doug)and other regular posters in the last 2 months but good to have you aboard --Welcome!

  • +1 A very polite condensation of my own impolite thoughts.

  • I'm staying back on 7, but slowly updating some apps, especially those released more recently, hoping some care is being made with newer apps to keep things compatible.

The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Let's just say that I will NOT be an early adopter of iOS 9.

  • I sense that the Angry Villagers are not happy.

@Sebastian mentioned a few months before things will settle, to answer OP's question.

  • It's like no one even paid attention to the OP- notice the second half of the sentence....

"I waited on updating to iOS8, but then iOS7.1.2 stopped working."

Does nobody back up their apps to a laptop or PC? If so you can always delete the updates, go back and install the previous versions again until the dust settles.

Perhaps the OP could elaborate on "iOS7.1.2 stopped working." Stopped working altogether? Certain updated apps. stopped working?

    Just curious....

    @Greenie did.

  • I think we're getting dramatically fiddly here. I don't think there are any hidden meanings in OP's question @Zymos. As others have pointed out it is easy enough to pull an old version from an older backup unless OP has backed up straight after updating to IOS8. Did he?

  • There was nothing hidden, it's just annoying to read comments blaming him for updating
to iOS 8, when he only did it in desparation due to updated apps not working in iOS 7.

  • Derek Jones saves the day!

I am going to get an ipad air tomorrow with ios 7.1.2. I have all the ipas from before the hell of ios8 happened. I am reprinting what Derek posted earlier this evening. It's like getting a do-over!!

If you haven't emptied your trash on your computer in a while, you might be able to take advantage of this:

    "Hi folks,

I updated apps as they started to come out on 7.1.2 (I have 6 iPads used in music production and bar the iPad 1 still on 5 of course, they are all on 7.1.2).

I noticed a number of issues - reported to AB support and app devs.

My approach to the current situation is to downgrade most apps to the revision before the update made to be compatible with AB SDK 2.1. I have also downgraded to AB 2.1.4 as well.

I have done that with about 30 apps so far on the iPad I am using them most frequently together on, and, as needed on the other iPads (which I use variously but at least 3 as part of an iCM2/4+ setup in a studio environment).

You can only do this if you have the older ipa's. If you are on a Mac (and I believe this is probably true on Windoze as well, but I haven't run iTunes on Windoze for a while), then if you have not emptied your trash can and you have updated your apps in iTunes on your Mac (probably PC too), then you might find the older ipa's still in your trash can.

I happened to have older iTunes Mobile Applications folder backups, so I can simply pick and choose from those as needed - but the above approach might be a lifesaver for you if you need to get back to a working state on 7.1.2 and have updated apps thinking things were going to continue to work OK on 7.1.2.

So, if you do have older ipa's, then the following should work.

1.) Backup any presets, patches, songs etc. for the apps you want to revert. 2.) Delete the app from your iPad and your current desktop iTunes Library. 3.) For safety, restart both your iPad and your iTunes app 4.) Sync. 5.) Restart both again. (The reason for 4 and 5 is so that iTunes doesn't get confused about the status of an app existing or not - I hit that a couple of times before adopting the above method). 6.) Copy in your older ipa's to the iTunes library. On a Mac at least, you can multi-select, right click and "Open in iTunes" 7.) Install the apps again to your iPad 8.) Sync. again.

I am now back to happy functioning iPads with smooth audio on 7.1.2.

Also, best to check in your current iTunes library / iPad Settings before starting to see what the revision you have at the moment and make sure you are truly recovering a version older than that.

Take care. Some apps have had 2 updates already - with the intent to try and cure some of the issues, so, check the update histories too online.

Hope that helps some. I know it won't help all esp. if you don't have older ipa copies. I can't help that. Sorry. Don't shoot the messenger :-D"

  • You must be so fucking happy, Adam.
