  • Still need to get this but yeah native clock sync would be nice

  • With Relic Waves I've learned to capture any sounds I like into Koala, or export them from the standalone app, so they don't get lost. Once there I'll manipulate pitch and sort out sync issues. It would be great to have pitch controls within the app.

    I love these apps as sources for rapid experimentation, but building a complex AUM arrangement around a Relic app is risky due to the way the apps manage locks (unless I'm mistaken, locks are universal across all instances, so if you want to start a new project your old one will fall to pieces on you). Better to reduce your favorite loops to audio.

    On the clocking front, I keep a slope detector in my hardware modular to convert peaks into triggers when I find a funky rhythm that's not snapping to a grid. This feels like a case where these types of tricks could come in handy. I picked up FAC Envolver to do this, but haven't tried it yet. Could be fun to trigger external drums or another Relic app from a well-tuned envelope follower/trigger generator.

    4Pockets Euclidean goes nicely with these apps.

  • This app is brilliant and dirt cheap like his others so I’m grateful and having a blast but I feel like there could be some improvement to the workflow.

    I see that there is a hold button and a lock to keep certain sounds from changing when you pick a different set, but it would be really nice if they didn’t stop playing when you do that, especially when having to manually sync stuff.

    Not 100% sure but I used it on my phone and iPad and feel like the hold/lock worked differently on them.

    Also, agree saving is confusing. REC on the main screen gets you a full blended recording but start/stop is on you to get right. Export wav gets you just one sound, export wave gets you all selected sounds as separate files.

  • love this, bpm sync is planned too :)

  • Number 1 on the App Store in the States for Paid Music Apps!

    This is cool. Did go unresponsive for me though in AUM. Also, would love some transport sync.

    Working fine for me in AUM.

    Definitely could use a host sync. You can just manually adjust the tempo in the app, but a host sync would be useful.

    Since this one is more loop based, I’ve been drawing midi in atom 2 to play this and it works great. Long notes to keep the loops going. Can’t beat all these sonic possibilities for $2

    Changing the bpm doesn’t change already playing loops

    True. I noticed that as well cause the pitch didn’t change immediately. It did change once I stopped and restarted the host.

    I'm happy to find that it is possible to sync Relic Flow to AUM manually - all this needs is:

    1. Manually matching the BPM
    2. Triggering Relic Flow via MIDI notes on the beat e.g. with Atom 2 or whatever.

    Because the Relic Flow notes are being triggered using MIDI notes e.g. every couple of bars, there isn't any time for Relic Flow clock to drift, which might happen with manual syncing without any host clock or Ableton Link syncing keeping things in time. I prefer to use it as a live instrument rather than as a sample generator, so it's good that sync is possible.

    I do wish there was some individual control of volume, and maybe some basic filtering/panning/compression for each sound, but would happily pay more for an app that offered that.

    Definitely. I ultimately adjusted the midi notes velocity to help with volume but would love a couple individual pad settings. I read on the website or somewhere to double tap a pad for individual settings but couldn’t get it to work in AU. Haven’t tried it in standalone yet…

    Right after I typed that I tried too, and no dice.

    My mistake… just reread it to clarify and it says double clicking on a parameter opens a window for setting the exact value.

    Love this app, much more useful to me than Waves.

    Really like the visual feedback, seeing the „rhythm“ that moves with the left edge being the playhead

    Is there a logic to the colours? At first i thought brighter colours meant higher frequencies but doesn’t always seem so….

    some of these little rhythm/textures are a whole world of inspiration in themselves

  • Also, Relic Flow files (saved with Save/Save As) saved in Standalone don't seem to appear in the AUv3 but I found a workaround.

    The whole set can be copied to the clipboard as text in Standalone, then open AUv3 and paste text, and the same sounds and settings appear in AUv3 and can then be saved as a file.

  • One of my favorite apps in a while

    Really? That’d be v.kool..🔊

  • Sometimes I can’t get the hold to work consistently. I feel like I’m probably missing something. Is there a trick to it?

    I mean, I works fine and I can always get it to hold, but sometimes it takes a few attempts before the hold sticks

    It's a bit tricky, you have to let go of the key, before you release the hold button, otherwise the hold button changes to lock.

    Perfect 🤩 that was exactly what I needed to know. Thx 🙏

    I had trouble with that too, it's kind of confusing how it works.

    I love this series of apps—I bought all of them—but they sorely need per-sound tuning. This one needs it more than the rest. How can you jam in key if you can’t tune the sounds?

    Lumbeat eventually figured this out. Here’s hoping night radio eventually does too.

    It’s always possible to export the stuff from Relic Flow (and Relic Waves and Fractal Bits) as a SunVox project and you’ll have full control over everything, like play all the 12 sounds across the entire keyboard polyphonically on separate midi-channels, change the envelopes per sound etc. as they are just SunVox Sampler modules. Familiarity with SunVox doesn’t hurt :sunglasses:

    I tried exporting to SunVox, but I don't see where the thing is saving the file. Can't seem to open it in SunVox. Am I missing something obvious?

    If you saved it in the AUv3 you need to use the system export in the import/export menu and save it in a place you can see in Files.app and then use system import in SunVox AUv3 to import the file.

    I personally use the stand-alone apps when creating sounds and the files are directly accessible in Files.app in the respective apps folders.

    AUv3’s are ‘sandboxed’ so import is still needed.

    Billions of unique lo-fi rhythms and drum loops from the depths of the Mathematical Universe. +AU

    Relic Flow is a generator of Lo-Fi rhythms, noise patterns and drum loops based on unique synthesis algorithms from NightRadio.
    More than 4 billion samples from the depths of the Mathematical Universe!

    Features:

    • search for new sounds with three buttons: next random set, edit code, previous set; each set of 12 sounds corresponds to a code of 8 characters;
    • three types of keyboards for live performing: onscreen buttons, PC keyboard, MIDI input;
    • several processing parameters + control via
      MIDI;

    • real-time audio recording to WAV (32-bit);

    • export to: WAV (one file or a set), SunVox (samples + effects in one file), text clipboard;
    • the LCK button freezes individual samples - they will not change during the search for new sets;
    • iOS Audio Unit Extension (AUv3).

    Double clicking on a parameter opens a window for setting the exact value.

    If you enable the Hold option, the notes will play endlessly, without reacting to key release (noteOff) events; turning the note on again works like turning it off; there are two ways to enable this option:

    1) using the Hold parameter in the "MIDI Mapping" window;
    2) by pressing the HOLD button, which appears in place of LCK while playing the musical keyboard: press HOLD, release the desired notes - then the released notes will continue to play.

    This is very true. Ability to do this should be there in the AUv3 and standalone for sure

    I’d settle for 8 individual outs…

  • I’m having loading issues with Relic Flow and Waves in EG Nodes. I’ve used about 150 AUs in Nodes and Relic Waves, Relic Flow and Quantum Distortion are the only 3 that I’ve had regular loading issues with, so not too bad really!

    I’ve contacted the devs about QD as I’ve tested with on a fresh save and I can get it to error. Will contact the Relic devs when I’ve done more testing.

    Mine is the latest Air model, if that makes any difference. I can definitely get those apps to refuse to load even after restarting my ipad and starting a new save in EG Nodes and only loading the Relic apps. The strange world of computer tech lol. To be honest, I'm amazed how few AUs I have issues with these days, especially when I think back to the IAA days. I checked my usage over the last 10 days and Nodes is my most used app. I regularly open and close projects in Nodes and AUM and use hundreds of AUs. I probably open about say 30 to 50 saves in these apps per day and I'm only had the 3 apps I've listed fail to open! I think that's pretty good going really!

  • Oh yeah, multiple outputs would be nice. I don't think other Relics have this either.
