Which atonal processing plugins like ring mods, comb filters, freq shifters etc. do you use?

So far I'm aware of the Moog mf 102, the modules in Drambo and FX in Koala (FX). Right now I'm mostly using the comb filter in Drambo because I can combine it with adsr. The one in Koala FX lacks adsr and smears to much for short sounds (processing generative synth hooks for Techno). Example: https://streamable.com/zlhhvl

These days when i look at my fx getting the most use its:

    FAC Punchlab
    FAC Alteza
    UA lo-fi-af
    Baby Audio Transit
    Bleass MotionFX

Turnado is STILL king for live use, but rolling the dice in Transit is particularly good at generating an easy fx chain.

I think Transit is the absolute quickest way to play with generated multifx chains that are still tweakable and able to be refined.

    Don't forget about Looperator though...

  • Bleass motion fx is great.ring mod, frequency shifter, delay fx all get very good atonal movement

I'm contemplating Turnado now. Maybe it'll fit the house band trio I'm in.
Is it rock solid and light on the CPU ? I plan to use it in Drambo, and maybe buy a version for my intel mac...
Also, has it ever been on sale ? Thanks !

Extremely light on cpu. Never had a crash as auv3 and use it all the time.

  • Interesting. Well, I guess I know my next buy then.

If you're proficient in Drambo you can definitely craft practically the same effects as Turnado Fyi. Same with transit.

The real beauty of Transit is a great randomizer.

And the thing that makes Turnado the top for live fx IMO, is that the order of the 8 fx is based on when you turn them on or off.
So you could turn your reverb on, then turn on a looping effect, then turn your reverb off and back on and it's magically routed AFTER the looper now. It's brilliant for layering fx differently on the fly, live.

Not sure about sales, i feel like i never see Sugar Bytes stuff on sale, but maybe that's because i bought them all already 😂

    Thanks, looks very powerful!

  • You can do a lot of interesting atonal stuff with Magic Pitch by GS DSP. AB PitchPad X might also be worth a look

Thanks, Magic Pitch looks impressive for atmospheres, the tutorial video already convinced me. The Audio Brewers demos of the pitchpad plugin don't do it justice I guess.

How heavy are both on the CPU?

Yep, I just bought it, it's just great... If I had the time and a mac silicone, I'd just make my own everything with Drambo (I like the comfortability of a destkop computer) and import it in my ipad setup !

  • Lines by audio thing

  • Turnado also has the ‘Dictator’ feature - which can offer all manner of evolving permutations.

Thanks yeah, Speakers would fall into the same category I think. It's a bit hard to draw the line between distortion plugins and frequency shifting.
