Sound Quality?

Hello! This has probably been asked before. If so, i'm sorry. What i want to know is if the sound quality will be any different from VSTs on PC. I'm totally in love with iMini and i want to use it in my music on the computer aswell, but i need the highest possible sound quality. I know there's Mini V for PC, but it's pretty expensive so i would prefer to just use iMini. I'm guessing i could just record iMini into a DAW on my iPad (for example Cubasis or Beatmaker 2) and then email it to myself or something. If i do this, how do i get the highest possible sound quality? Will Audiobus be better than Inter-app Audio? How good will the sound quality be? I don't know that much about what's good and what's bad, so please explain a little bit too!

Thanks!

Hi, What I would do - if I wanted maximum audio quality for using on my PC- is: record iMini into GarageBand (via Audiobus or IAA) and export it as Uncompressed AIFF to Box or Dropbox and than download that file to my PC. When you mail a large file there might be a problem, I think large mails will not work. So the workflow can be: Record on iPad > export to a free online service > download to PC. Online Services are for example Dropbox or Box.com.

Important for best audio quality is the choice you make for export. Uncompressed AIFF is good, WAV is also good, MP3 can be good in my opinion (but the compression rate has to be good (see further)) - but not everybody will agree. The sound quality will be good if you choose one of these formats when you export your recording. You can of course also use other apps for recording, I don't have Cubasis, I do have BM2 but don't use it.

General note about audio quality: the more compressed (mp3, m4a) the lower the quality, the smaller the file. The larger the file (Wav, Uncompressed AIFF) the better the audio quality. And then there is the amount of compression, for example: in the world of the Mp3 format there are different degrees of compression: 320 Kbps is very good quality, 120 Kbps is not so good quality (but the file is smaller than a 320 Kb MP3). 192 Kb is good, I use that if I export from GarageBand (cause in GB it is the best option for me, Uncompressed AIFF is also a free option in GB, but that file is too large for me).

  • Or use Apollo Remote Recorder + Apollo Injector, and Apollo IDI over BTLE, or use the iPad as an outboard with an iConnectMIDI4+.

  • I was gonna recommend ARR but the vst is buggy here, causes live to crash on exit.

  • Or instead... try the free OBXD VSTi... similar vintage analog synth sounds and awesome quality.

  • Thank you so much for the awesome answers! I'll definitely try your method, Marcel! Coloobar, i'll check it out tomorrow! The problem is that i have some special presets that i love in iMini, but it might still be a nice synth!
