Restore from iCloud backup or start fresh on new phone?
Just picked up a 15 pro max after accidentally updating my Xr to iOS 17. (Somehow hit the manual update while on the preference page, which made my phone feel pretty crippled).
It used to be much safer and bug free to start fresh on a new phone. Is this still the case or should I just restore from an iCloud backup?
Additionally, my iCloud backup is taking forever, can I start fresh on my new phone while the old phone is still backing up, and then restore the new phone from the old iCloud backup?
Lots of questions! I also do have iMazing if that can help me in any way although I use that more for saving apps that may disappear from the App Store.

I say start fresh and be selective on what you really use.
I’d back up to computer and iCloud just in case, but then start fresh. It’s amazing how much crap our devices save. Good to give it a fresh install once in awhile I feel like.
Definitely make backups in iMazing in addition to cloud backups. iMazing allows you to retrieve files from backups without needing to entirely restore your device.
If you don’t do some sort of restore, you will lose the data of any apps that don’t store their basic data in the cloud. Many many apps do not store their data in the cloud.
I ended up backing everything up in iCloud and imazing and also starting fresh. Best of both worlds I think, although had to redownload all IAPs for all apps.
