I've wanted to make this video for a while. Disconnected: Animoog, Riffler, RDM

It's not my best mix (I certainly hope I've improved over the last 2 years) but this one is a bit more meaningful to me.
I created the music when I was feeling isolated and depressed and was looking for a way to express those feelings so it holds a special place in my music catalog.
I doubt anyone under 30 will be familiar with the phone intercept messages sprinkled throughout the track but anyone who grew up with a landline in the U.S. will likely recognize them.
Thanks for watching and listening and for letting me share a part of who I am.

I think you nailed dark atmosphere with depression and sadness. Palm muting riff fits perfectly there. I also enjoyed the video part.
    Good job @MadeofWax!

  • Awesome stuff, mate! hope your are doing way better now too

  • Excellent melancholic regretful vibe…
    Dark, moody.
Those messages are like ghosts too!

  • Meaningful, powerful, sadness, loneliness, inevitable disconnection - I just wanted to listen and watch all the way through - and yes it sounded just right - thankyou for sharing this part of yourself. BTW I do enjoy your other off the wall works too :)

It took me a while to find the right riff. I'm glad you like the video.

I'm in a much better place mentally than I was back then. I appreciate you for asking. I struggle with it from time to time still but I'm trying to learn how to work through difficult times without letting it pull me down.

I was really hoping to capture those feelings and somehow make them relatable in musical form. I'm glad it worked. I'm not sure what made me think of those old messages but once the idea hit me I had to find them.

I'm glad to hear it sounded right. And I appreciate the chance to share. The "off the wall" side of me is my default. I love making weird, wacky music and videos and knowing others enjoy them makes me happy 😊.

  • Very good. Bell Telephone would be proud. It’s funny, those people probably aren’t much older than me yet I feel a world apart.

I think about death everyday and every day it becomes less important. Thx for sharing, bro. We are all one.

It's crazy how much telecommunications have changed over the years. Does Bell telephone even exist anymore? 😳
Of course you feel a world apart from those people. You sir, are a timeless classic.
Thanks again for watching and listening. I think you were the only person who commented on the music track when I originally posted it 2 years ago. It means a lot.

Great guitar, lovely use of the messages, and great (I assume?) AI visuals. Certainly communicates the vibe you were going for. I really like this.

    I'm glad you liked it.

This was created with SVD (Stable Video Diffusion) which is sadly already considered outdated tech on the AI subreddits. Each 4 seconds of video was generated by a single image. I generated the "guidance" images with a text to image generator.

There's still a great deal of randomness involved. You can't control what animates. It might be the camera. It might be your subject. It might be some random background object. I'll frequently get completely unusable results. Maybe I should save a few for a blooper reel next time.

I still have to edit and arrange the clips into a single video but I imagine it won't be long until a video like this could be generated from a single sentence.

  • I’ve certainly felt like this at times.
I actually missed the track when you posted it originally…I go in an out of being in this place and don’t always catch everything that passes through. I like the marriage of the music to the clip. It makes a wonderful whole. I kind of miss the ol’ landline days. All those messages had a little bit of character to them.

  • Very powerful. The music really captures the mood. Having been in a similar place, I completely understand. I am glad you’re doing better lately, and that we both found an outlet to express ourselves.

I like the choice of instruments. The ominous Riffler guitar parts contrast very well with the dark, moody background. The imagery and facial expressions are so lifelike that it’s hard to believe that it was created by computer software. I think the mix is perfectly fine. I wouldn’t change anything. Very well done!

Thanks for sharing some of the secrets into the making of the video. I think the blooper video would be fun. I would love to see that!

With over 8.2k creations on this forum it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. I miss a bunch of great posts.
I kinda miss the old phone messages too. But these days my phone is more of a computer in my pocket than anything. I rarely use it for calls.

It is getting pretty crazy what AI can do. I'm trying to keep up with the advances in the video realm but it progresses so fast that if you aren't paying attention you get lost pretty quickly.
I'm glad you have shared your music with me for some of these videos. Your music is so perfect for cinematic imagery and videos.
I'm also glad you and I and other friends have found our way through the dark times and wound up here. This forum has been a source for a great deal of happiness in difficult times.

  • I know you and Anthony like metal. I started this last Saturday and I was thinking of you guys. Do you think I should post this on the forum? It might be a bit too much for here… or not. I really don’t do much metal, so it might suck. I would like your honest opinion. You won’t hurt my feelings! I just posted it on SoundCloud and it hasn’t gotten any plays yet.

    Hey Paul,
I can’t speak to what other people might think but this sounds great to me. The opening riff makes me think of Tool and then it really takes off into a different, almost progressive metal type feel like Dream Theatre . I also like how you circle back to the original riff.
My musical tastes are different than most people I know so it’s difficult to judge what will hit with other folks. I like a wide range of genres but have a narrow interest in each so finding what works for me isn’t a great gauge for whether something works for anyone else.

  • Powerful music and video, made even more so because of its very personal nature 🙏
