  • 199 for full version? Basically the price of a single synth like Serum or Diva. Yep, will have to get it.

  • OK I'm getting it this weekend. Damn. Desktop modular production, here I come!

I already have Scaler 2, the Audiomodern apps, Remidi 2, and Harmony Bloom for desktop. A shame auv3s don't work in Bitwig. If anyone has ideas on must have vsts, free or otherwise, I want your knowledge while I'm willing to bleed money or at least gigabytes of valuable hard drive space. Gonna have to clear some samples out 😔

Focus on Bitwig. Take the time to learn it well since it’s a very deep environment with immense capabilities.

  • Bitwig is worth it. If you ever wanted it get it now. I still don’t know how to use it and I hate that AU don’t work but it’s a sick daw from all the videos I saw.

This. I would spend some time inside the programme first before thinking about what else you might need or desire. It has a lot of stuff already included. Then once you know what you’re missing you can find the appropriate plug in. I don’t think you’ll be missing too much. It’s a great programme for sound manipulation and creation.

  • Thanks everyone. Already use Logic but mostly prefer sound design and jamming with hardware and iPad.

I pretty much feel set if I have powerful sounds and some composition tools like Scaler 2. But I'm definitely interested in hearing what midi tools people find themselves using for composition, or what they use within Bitwig to get to their happy accidents or more purposeful places!

Just checking, you're aware that Bitwig has its own excellent synths and sound creation tools? E.g., Bitwig Grid is itself a tool roughly along lines of Ableton's Max for Live, or miRack or Audulus on iOS.

    https://www.bitwig.com/the-grid/

And there are many, many excellent free synths on desktop. Two awesome general purpose synths that are open source are Vital and SurgeXT.

Oh yeah, that's why I've been eying bitwig, mostly because of the modular sound design environment. I love Vital and SuegeXT...Have an old laptop that is just permanently plugged into a novation Launchkey 49 running those bad boys, with Helm riding shotgun. I know Bitwig will have me set with sound design for miles. I'm still pretty curious what inspiring midi fx and sequencers people have been using on desktop though, as deciding on the actual notes is where the other half of my brain goes while the rest of me is busy with patches.

I don't know much about Bitwig's sequencing capabilities. I haven't invested much in desktop midi generators outside the core of what I like for composition. Scaler 2 to develop new and inspiring progressions, the Audiomodern generators to get some controlled meanderings and chaos on command, a piano roll, violin, guitar, and I'm actually pretty set. But I'm excited at the prospect of some inspiring midi generators or fx that could be paired with a modular environment, though from videos it looks like I can do a lot of the mirack generative stuff within Bitwig.

Bitwig is the DAW for synth lovers and sound designers. It’s almost like the dRambo of the daw world. I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned more (like the modulation is crazy and it’s all built in, worth it)

  • The yearly update plans are half price aswell
If you already own it. That’s the cheapest I’ve ever seen them.

  • With Bitwig being somewhat touch optimized, can you control it from within Continuity with your fingers or do you still need the pencil? Or are there other ways to use an iPad as a touch screen for Bitwig?

  • I like Ableton, but it looks interesting. Ableton seems it's more straightforward, but maybe it's just I don't know the program.

  • Tried it again but I just don’t click with Bitwig… I’d rather use Drambo in Ableton.

  • Drambo in Ableton is fun!

  • I might have to use another email address to demo it for a few days this week, a few producers I know have switched over recently, but they’re definitely in the more uptempo clan…

Polarity has a great YouTube channel for bitwig. He has a lot of videos where he only uses stock bitwig devices to make music. Definitely check it out:

    Thank you, will do!

  • I still think Max4Live in Ableton is amazing ! Live 12 is very good!

  • I have an expired license for 8-Track, and the upgrade to Studio 5.1.8 is $192.33.

If I were to buy a full license to Studio 5 for $199, how much will the upgrade cost in 12 months?

    Thanks.

You can get a 1 year upgrade plan for Studio from Thomann right now for $77:

    https://www.thomannmusic.com/bitwig_studio_upgrade_plan.htm

They also have the upgrade from 8-track to studio for $162:

    https://www.thomannmusic.com/bitwig_studio_upgrade_8_track.htm

They do good deals like this a couple times per year and Thomann always has the best price by a few bucks. What I usually do is buy a year of upgrade plan through Thomann when the sales are on, hold onto the code and then redeem it to my account during September when they offer a free plugin with the purchase/redemption of an upgrade plan. Two years ago it was a free u-he synth, last year it was baby audio’s Crystalline.

Thanks @Gagapokerface, Thomann has great prices, I bought the Live Suite upgrade from Lite for $379. I think I'll stick with Live, still have lots to learn.
