I guess if you want it to. It does upward compression, meaning making quieter sounds louder, so it could technically bring up the tail of a reverb. ;)

  • I've been listening to Riyoji Ikeda's albums quite a lot recently. I threw this into tracks in an AUM experiment using Relic Waves and Relic Flows. Putting a simple sequence of Relic Flows loops through one of the "Sparkling" presets (or the Steep Plasma Filters preset after them) gives every little pop and fizz a transient weight that reminds me of Ikeda's sound.

Lots of useful presets in this one. Huge range of tones.

You'll want a limiter after SMSH-PHLB for your playtime.

    The icon is really nice.

The FAC suite plus a sequencer turns the iPad into an intense drum machine.

  • Could this be in the realm of the Vulf compressor (based on the SP303 vinyl comp) ?

    Example:

  • I'm sure it can do that, but it has a more extreme range than what the video demonstrates.

This is like that gel stuff you can use to clean crevices in your car or whatever. It can reveal details you didn't know were there. Then you can rinse it off into a bowl and eat the leavings for breakfast, which saves you money for more FAC apps.

This is what I was wondering too

  • this thing is awesome. it’s kind of crazy how the handy that gate is, and the different tones you can get when you feed a soft sound, or a boring sample in. this app just finds the magic in a sample and magnifies it to become something amazing.!

  • Here is my video walkthrough for Smash, you have so much control.

  • Nice overview! I would like to take this opportunity to illustrate the "Flatten" parameter.

In the video at ⇨ 10:37, there is a good opportunity to use the Flatten knob instead of lowering the wet signal (blue).

Flatten will restore the original dynamics, while preserving the character of the compressor, ensuring that the wet signal (blue) won’t become 'sausage-like.' This way, it will maintain its original dynamics and Smash character!

Furthermore, the waveform viewer helps to match the dry (white) and wet (blue) signal easily!

Nice one! Thank you for your feedback!

  • Both FAC Punchlab and FAC Smash are Universal Purchase: iPad/iPhone, macOS and Vision Pro

And the macOS version is working properly on Mac M series and Intel!

Important: In Mac Catalyst, it's impossible to receive notifications about the show/hide status of a plugin. Consequently, any UI tasks that consume resources will continue to be performed even when the plugin is hidden, resulting in a complete waste of CPU resources

    BUT

FAC Punchlab and FAC Smash include a workaround to avoid any waveform rendering when the plugin is hidden! More info

  • Testing 4 different drum loops AND a little Ambient music at the end

  • Leo @sfm did a great overview of FAC Smash:

  • FAC Smash 1.1 is now available on the App store!

New dark theme! If you enjoy the fx please rate and review ❤️

  • How does this compare to woot then ?

Using medusa on a double bass violin.

    Nice.

May have settings not dialled in and some of bass string frequencies rise ( like an adsr reverb ) but dont think its medusa settings.

So maybe needs both way compression and perhaps woot does make a different release sound.

but think a vid were posted online saying woot destroys bass signal somehow.

So should I be buying smash.

If liking compressors on bass guitar sounds ?

  • Hmm it is better for taming the after resonant string, without losing too much character.

Not sure I need to even tame the string but the fact it can.

    Means its a keeper.

  • Swam double bass without anything

Then with smash and 0% flatten

    Then a % of flatten.

The more you add, the louder it gets but also amplifies the tail of strings

Then with added reverb and either 0% or low % flatten.

For solo bass you would still use smash but have a % of flatten

but for mixes. Either 0% flatten or low % flatten

and just introduce or leave off at end of mix.

Its cool you can tame the string tail reverb with just a knob but gain amplification of instrument.

  • You also got eq etc.

  • Just popped by to thank @FredAntonCorvest for Smash - it's sort of magical.

Thank you! I use it a lot to get a more "in your face" sound, or to add subtle excitement, or simply for pure sound design pleasure with the gate, or when I want to explore the hidden gems below the -60dB floor, for example :)

  • dang, cant decide between smash and medusa. i know they do things differently, but still.

love the gate in smash, so i think ill get that one

Don't know if you watched by best apps of 2024 vid Fred, Smash was one of my picks, it's super cool
