iTunes wtf?!

edited May 14 in Other

iTunes for Windows was always a crappy application, but it was the best of a bad job. Today all my music has disappeared and if I try to re-add it I'm told it 'is now in the Apple Music app'. Sure enough, I installed the Apple Music App and the music showed up. Unfortunately the Apple Music app is trash.

Can I get iTunes functionality back? Or is there a better alternative for organising a fairly large music library on Windows?

I f******* hate Apple :(

  • I’ve been having issues on Windows pc too with iTunes, I have the vast majority of Music backed up on external drives, but haven’t had time to work on fixing it. I’m curious to see if anyone has any ideas.

Yeah, mine's all still there but I need a better app to suck it into. If you try importing the music folder it moans but then asks if you want to import the files as audiobooks. If you do that, it more or less seems to work the same as before, although it looks like it has skipped anything I have purchased from the iTunes Store (i.e. only CDs I have imported are there). Maybe that part is to be expected.

The Apple Music app. which replace iTunes on MacOS is buggy as well. I stopped using it to transfer music to my iPhone and Ipad. iMazing provides more control and flexibility.

Is iMazing a decent player too, on the iPhone end and/or on desktop? I don't mind buying something if it's going to be good. I currently don't have much of my music on the phone because it's such a pain to manage and I don't have decent player. I end up streaming stuff from YouTube Music rather than playing my library, 'cos it's just less hassle :|

To answer my own question, iMazing isn't really a player and doesn't have an app on the IOS device. That said, it can act as a player from the desktop app for music stored ion the IOS device, and gives functionality that looks more or less like the iTunes screenshot above. Not sure I would use it like that, but you could. I guess I will still need to get a good player for the iPhone.

That said, I think I may buy this app for my Windows PC. There is a trial version (which isn't immediately obvious from the web site!) and it seems to work pretty good. I love that it can connect to your devices via WiFi with no faffing about with web browsers or IP addresses required. It's a mystery to me why iPads and iPhones can't do that straight out of the box, it's such an obvious key feature. There are far more features than I will probably ever use, but it's definitely going to be useful in managing my photos and transferring video and audio recordings. Maybe I'll even start doing backups

Well, to be fair: itunes or apple music was always crap, no matter what platform! I HATE it.

  • Btw. Feeling hate is usually a good indication to simply not start using something. 😂

  • I had a go with Media Monkey, that looks pretty competent.

What is a good and free music organizer and player for iOS? Apple Music seems to be not the best and they want users to subscribe to their music service.
