Latency in Logic Pro despite buffer set to 128 samples

edited May 2024 in Logic Pro

I set the buffer to 128 or 256 samples, but sometimes Logic pro introduces significant latency into the project and I can’t get rid of it. I don’t understand why LP does it.
CPU is not overloaded.
I know I can switch on the low latency monitoring mode, but this kills all the efxs.
Any idea?

  • Most likely because of an AUV3 plugin IMO. Try and narrow down which plugin might be causing the issue.

  • Some plug-ins use optional lookahead (compressor, limiters etc.) that can cause latency with the mastering assistant being one extreme example.

  • @richardyot ,
Yes, I thought so far it’s because of a plugin, but this time it happened without any 3rd party plugin.

    @samu,
This seems to be the case. I removed the mastering assistant and the latency has gone. Before that I just tried to turn it off, but it looks it’s not enough.
    Thanks!

  • When you have plugins that introduce latency, just use low latency mode.

Add it to the control bar via the “customise settings” menu:

  • @klownshed,
Yes, I used to use it. Actually I put it on the control bar. It helps indeed. My only problem is that it turns off all the efxs.

That’s because the fx it turns off add latency. You use it to record in some MIdi or audio with low latency then turn it off again :)

Some of the stock plugins add latency; the limiter for example uses look ahead…

  • @Samu, @klownshed,
I didn’t know this look ahead thing. Thanks for the info!
