Things - Fold is a versatile wavefolder plugin designed for both subtle and extreme dynamic saturation. Inspired by the legendary Serge Wave Multipliers, known for their classic diode-based circuit design, Fold combines wavefolding with an envelope follower, low-pass and high-pass filters, and adjustable feedback. This combination allows for a wide range of creative sound design possibilities, from gentle harmonics to crunchy distorted sounds.

Not directly, but Serge panels were the “cheap” alternative to Buchla 4U modules, and use banana patch cables like Buchlas. I think they’ve done some Eurorack stuff since, or perhaps someone’s cloned them in Eurorack format. Hainbach has a Serge system. They seem to be large panels rather than modules (ie bigger, possibly multi-function - NB I could be wrong about the multifunction bit).

    searches

Found this page about a Eurorack version of the wave multipliers:

    https://serge-modular.com/serge_eurorack?mod=RS_VCM_E

The same site lists the panels, too.

  • Seems to cover same (less) ground as Shaper or Shaper2…

Many of us are Audiothing completists 🙃 guilty 🖐️

  • Assuming this behaves like an analog wave folder, it's always worthwhile starting from a simple input signal and allowing the folder to do the work. From the video it sounds like this can also get some Sherman-like vibes on more complex stuff, so it's great this has a wide range. Easy pickup for me.

@MonkeyDrummer After purchasing „Things - Fold“ i checked it versus Wavefolder, Shaper and the waveshaper in ChowMultiTool to learn more about its specialities.

One main advantage of „Things - Fold“ is the envelop follower that allows to modulate the strength based on the volume of the input signal. This either enhances the transient for positive mod value or if dialing in a high initial strength negative mod value will enhance/fold the quieter parts.
Adding small envelop modulations creates a more organic, slightly changing wavefolding which sounds very nice in my opinion. None of the other wave shapers featured such a modulation. (Wavefolder has LFOs to mdulate stuff)

Things - Fold also offers a feedback stage with EQs, which can further spice up the output.

Cool, I’ll listen to that later (but I’ll probably still end up buying it before I listen…).
