Editing - Koala vs. Sitala vs. Digistix 2
Overall, I’m very happy with Koala as my main sampler for drums but, I’ve been creating a template in Loopy Pro and I’m possibly looking for something a little simpler.
I bought Sitala when it was released and thought it would fit the bill for my current needs. But, unless I’m missing something, there’s no zoom in the edit window??? Obviously, that makes it difficult to get precise with my drum/sample editing.
So, now I’m looking at Digistix 2 and thinking it may be a good option. I’m sure it does more than I need but, how is the editing within the app? Can you zoom in? Are there any limitations regarding file size or file format?
Thanks!

Drambo
With Sitala and Koala there’s the pad finger drumming, digistix 2 is a straight sequencer if your looking to edit the drums and not the sequence Ds2 or FAC
Digistix2 is quite a comprehensive app and I like it a lot, but its main focus isn‘t on editing individual samples. I did use Koala for a while but I don‘t like how attack/release is implemented ( it‘s hard to get exact fades for example ). I‘m using Wavebox at the moment ( which also has its quirks ).
I typically sample Audi right into AUM by pre setting the bar length to record… then from there edit it in koala, logic, audio share..
Best thing about Sitala is the fact that it scrolls through a folder. You can have say as many kicks, snare etc as you want on a pad and swipe through them very quickly without having to visit the file browser. So if you have a ton of samples you want to try out, put them in a folder, load it onto a pad and with a swipe you can go through them very quickly and figure out what you like.
To me, indeed Drambo feels like the least limited of the bunch.
Zoom in the sample edit window, snap to zero crossings, adding slices manually or automatically that can be triggered by keys immediately, sample start point modulation, velocity layers when I need them, great drum sound shaping beyond EQ etc.
Thank you all for the responses. Looks like I’ve got some thinking to do!
I’m not necessarily looking to “just” edit samples. I just want to be able to do it quickly and on the fly. Sometimes I’ll only have drum one shots but other times I’ll have longer loops/samples. If Sitala could zoom in it would be just about perfect. Such an odd omission??
Koala is pretty good for what I want to do but, as @Gravity mentioned, the attack/release could be implemented better (for my purposes). It also seems to double trigger more frequently than Sitala with my particular midi controller. Not sure why?
Drambo is probably more than I need for this but I’m open to it. I guess I should jump on patchstorage and see if there’s a good starting point there. Also, I just like the simple pad based layout of the actual drum apps (koala, Sitala, Digistix).
Again, thanks! More research to be done!
