Here’s a little drone I mixed live in AUM. Noinputmixer, koala sampler, gong amp, k7d and rymdigare.

This is brill, really psychedelic, it’s soundtracking my enforced Minecraft session with my youngest son. Apparently the music goes well with “the nether”.

    Blimey. High praise indeed! 🙏

  • Does this count as a drone track?

  • A day late. Typical me. 🙂

This a a few samples run through Fluss and a lot of Velvet Machine.

Well it’s built over a drone, so why not? Maybe a bit busy melodically in places, but I for one ain’t going to play the genre police. I like the result, either way.

Great track. I like the video too

Great textures and atmosphere, and the video is fantastic. Mine was only on the day because I rushed the video!

That's good to know. Never really explored what a drone is or isn't. Never thought about being too melodic but it makes sense.

My Drone Day entry a day late. I just couldn't bring myself to live perform Ambient, and I wanted a track that will fit on my upcoming album. So, I compromised and created TripHop with a drone bass. Nothing really melodic about it despite it being in the key of E.

  • oh man.... gorgeous stuff everyone! I hadn't realized the day.... will have to watch for it next year. In the meantime thank you for the inspiration!

I like this. A lot. And the drone’s there.

On the melody thing (and klaxon I am probably talking rubbish here…) I don’t think melody is an issue per se. It’s more about how it interacts with the drone. Probably erroneously, I tend to think of drones as inherently “slow” music, so actually trip-hop vibes kind of inhabit a similar space. But then again, thinking about it: bagpipes! Can’t get much more drone-based, but lots of busy melody lines over the top. So yes, I’m almost certainly talking rubbish!

This has been a public service announcement…

Thank you so very much @bygjohn!

  • All the tracks posted here are great examples of how versatile a good drone is and I’ve enjoyed listening to them all (and watching the videos)🙏
I’m a bit late with mine due to holidaying (without any headphones to do any serious listening / mixing) on the beautiful Lofoten Islands off the coast of Norway.
The basis of the track was however recorded on Drone day and is a recording of a Bosch Serie 4 Tumble Dryer working hard to dry our clothes (even though we had fantastically hot weather) 😊
The recording (multiple copies) has been passed through Attack Softener, FAC Alteza, Velvet Machine, LRC7, A2M into Roli Noise via Rozeta Scaler and ChordJam, MU Loch Awe Filter, CuSnP, Spirangle, Magic Dice, FilterStep, PhaseDelayArray, AudioKit L7 Looper and TB Reverb all in AUM.

  • @GeoTony Wow! Orchestral tumble driers are a thing? Seriously, I’m in awe of how you’ve transformed the source material and made something so cinematic.

Actually that's some good food for thought. :) I like your take on drones and melodies. You're right. A bagpipe is both drone and melody. So are Uilleann pipes.

When it comes to drone music and melody, I guess there aren't really any set rules. More like guidelines.

But yes, I felt TripHop was the best fit for a drone since I really don't like much of what I made two years ago during my "Summer of Ambient 2022". 😂🤣 It was a different time of production for me, and it mostly sucks. (At least my opinion is most of my 2022 Ambient sucks. 🤣 "I Shall Guide Thee", the one about Anubis, is probably the only Ambient piece I did well.)

Where was I? Ah yes, so doing a TripHop piece that included those Deadmau5-styled plucks was very much what I heard in my mind's ears. :)

By the way, everyone did a great job here. :)

Late to the party, I know, (life intervening in music making, how very dare it!). But still, here is my effort.

“So: you have chosen The Lament Configuration” - The Priest

Two Decent Samplers, D1, Digitalism, Continua, a Weeping Wall, and several Atoms messing with the tempo and probability on a little jam I actually freaking played in manually from my piano, then live mixed from AUM into AudioShare. Wonders will never cease, but then again…

…We have such sights to show you.

Side note - after a depressingly familiar run of diminishing-return sequels, the Hellraiser 2022 reboot is actually pretty cool. Not as great as the original, of course, but it respects and builds on the Cenobite / box lore in a satisfying way.

Also also: the only thing I typed into the AI image generator for this were the words ‘The Lament Configuration’. And it immediately gave me the image of a cursed puzzle box, as you see above. A different kind of spooky.

  • @Svetlovska If you hadn’t mentioned the horror connection, I’d have pegged this as wistful.

Just airplayed it via my Apple TV and when the screensaver kicked in it had footage from the ISS of the aurorae over northern Canada and it fitted beautifully.

    Lovely!

  • @bygjohn : Thanks for the listen! Yep, ‘wistful’ works. Won’t give any spoilers for the movie, but The Lament Configuration is one of the shapes the box can take on, and as the Hellraiser wiki has it:

“Lament signifies "life," and choosing this configuration appears to be the only way to escape from the Cenobites' clutches with one's sanity intact… The cost of the Lament Configuration is… having to live with the choices one has made, and the opportunities forgone.”

So, yeah. ‘Wistful’ nails it. I’ll take that as Mission Accomplished. :)

  • @rottencat : fab audio and video as always! :) Loving your work.

  • No horror at all in yours Irena ( @Svetlovska ) just peace and beauty… great work 🙏
