Anyone fancy a crack at going one up on the Floyd?
So, I, among hundreds of other animators and filmmakers made an entry to the 50th anniversary competition the band ran to celebrate their Dark Side of the Moon album. Sally I didn’t win, though the odds were long and there were many strong entries. I’m not keen to just throw the effort in the bin, and would like to enter it into festivals and competitions but I would need to completely replace the soundtrack, and not with a cover version, and preferably something that would transcend what I’ve already made.
The question is whether to try that myself (in the spirit of Little Britain, write the theme tune sing the theme tune, if that means anything to our cosmopolitan audience here?)
Ideally I’d find a band in need and tailor it to a track they’re looking for a video for, even sell it, but that’s likely to be a big ask and not a real goer…
The third is to find someone who’d like a music video to go with their music and would be happy pretty much scoring something to go with what exists. We’d have a nice collaborative piece that I’d be happy entering into as many comps and festivals as possible, and they the same hopefully…
I don’t know if it would be out of order to just open it up to everyone and pick one I like, so I’m wondering what the good folk here think, and if anyone’s up to the challenge?
I’d ideally enter it into AnimaSyros which actually has a standard deadline on the 1st of June, but can be as late as the end of that month (the earlier the better though as you’ll likely get preference in adjudicating whether it’s successful or not)
I’ve attached a poll and the video below (watch with or without sound, up to you)
I’d welcome any feedback and discussion, and collaboration would be ace, with individuals or a group…
Cheers, Chris

Great video! Reminded me of this.
I haven’t answered the poll, because I really have no idea which option would be best.
It’s such a beautiful animation, though, so something needs to be done to give it a new life after the Floyd competition.
If you do decide on a competition or the many entries/mix idea, I’d like to have a go, though I have serious doubts about whether I’d succeed in doing anything that did the visuals justice. But you don’t know till you try.
I fancy a crack at it
I voted for multiple contributors, and a remix to finish, in the style of our AudioBus silent movie soundtracks (if it is the whole album? Not just this one track?) If you chose to go that route, Chris, I’d be happy to take a crack at a track/section. Might be a push to get there by 1st June, but could certainly manage it by the end of the month.
It’s just the one (well it’s two officially) - from the opening heartbeat of the album until just before “on the run” starts…
I’m starting to think maybe a bit of a mix might be nice, I’ll get a clean version ready to go later today and then anyone who wants a crack can DM me for a link to it…
Voted for many entries and a remix… but just won’t be able to commit my own time. But other people’s time/effort? I am totally committed to that.
So there's not an overwhelming amount of interest, I've got one piece DM'd me that might work for some of it but if anyone really does want a go, I've stripped off the sound and got a 60MB version ready and waiting to share - DM me for a link if you fancy it
I think what might happen is I'll sketch it and see, maybe medley a bunch of stuff together / even layer them up if they're suitable...
I’ve had a few peeps ask me for the link which is lovely, I’m looking forward to what comes up in the coming days. I don’t want to be particularly prescriptive, but I’m almost certainly not hoping to emulate the original tune or band at all. I’d say keep it as simple as possible, and think soundtrack rather than full on tune, but maybe that’s not the direction anyone else sees so just do your thing in that case! 😄
Beauty.
Cheers Mike 🙏
