  • Did you record the bass and piano parts separately? Or did you split the keyboard and play both at the same time? If so, that’s some serious multitasking!

  • @LinearLineman this is one of your best yet.

    Loved the intro and when
the rest of the instruments began?
it took someplace else yet again.

    Awesome.

    Nice touch on ending there.

  • This is the best I have heard syncing up with a drum track.

I expect you did a real-time sync of the bass (left hand) and soloist (right hand).

But then it opens up with drums, bass, soloist and a sax part… that’s more than 2 hands can create
so I suspect overdubbing more parts. Don’t hear that from you much.

Game changier (sic) track from the @Linearlineman.

@Paulieworld yes, I played both bass and piano parts at once and split the keyboard afterwards. I did some significant midi editing of the bass to get a bunch of notes to land just right.

Thanks for showing up @Gravitas. Nice to hear from you, bro. I appreciate the praise, especially coming from you.

@McD, there was no overdubbing. The sax played the right hand piano part. All the material was in my improvisation. However, on the second time through, I staggered the piano track between PurePiano and Ravenscroft, resulting in a huge delay of a couple of measures. Thus lines seemed to be a lot longer than they were and made interesting combinations and harmonies with the original piano track. It’s all illusion, my friend.

Now I will know that note shifting is a tool in your post improvisational process. I know you use volume automation to have those extra parts enter and leave the ensemble.

My MIDI experiments could add MIDI automation of channel volumes in AUM using a 4 Pockets tool that I know I bought. Have to recall the name:

    MIDImixer for AUM AUv3 Plugin

  • @McD, don’t forget BPM. The reyouthinizer!
