Lofoten Islands

We had an unbelievable holiday in the beautiful Lofoten Islands off the coast of Norway last week.
Orcas, Sea Eagles, white beaches, no rain, 22degrees etc etc…
Here are 4 tracks that I started there and finished this week.
This is the YT link but you might have to navigate to the playlist when you get there… some simple videos of the fantastic scenery…

Audio only versions…

  • Love the sublime sax! Also liked the big bass in the second track. Sounds like you had a great time. I wasn’t familiar so I did a search and looked at some images. One particular image really appealed to me. A mountain next to a fjord with some small red houses. I envy the people that actually live and work there. It’s probably a lot of hard work, but worth it.

I enjoy taking my wife and my iPad to scenic places like this and make a little music. Nice tracks!

  • Nice collection of scenic compositions.

We took Highway 1 down to Big Sur today for a nice drive. There’s a bridge there that suffered
damage in a recent storm and the road is limited to one lane that gets timeshared by control light.
It’s weird for the road to be one lane and so near the cliff:

  • Cheers @Paulieworld and @McD .
It’s an amazing place Paul, almost nothing but fjords, mountains and small red houses 😊 Also lots of dried fish hung out on racks outside . Well worth a visit if you can get there. Friendly people, very little pollution, we were drinking (Norwegian) Gin and tonics outside at 11pm… never went dark.
Also McD if you like bridges then the Lofoten Islands are the place to go… loads of bridges joining the islands and a couple of undersea tunnels. The local restaurant had Cod’s tongue and dried fish on the menu and when asked what they could do for vegetarians as a starter they said they could take the Whale off the salad 🤔

  • Beautiful collection, @GeoTony! Hard to choose a favorite. All good. Now that’s a smooth sax. Lofoten sure looks like an awesome place. Cod tongue and whale salad? Wow.

  • Cheers Dav. We were blessed with great weather which helped but yes it was awesome.
Dried fish is a big thing, a lot of it exported to Italy. These Stockfish (Stick Fish) hangers are all over the islands…

Have you ever tried Lutefisk? It’s actually not bad if you can get past the smell and texture. My grandmother would bring some when she stayed with us. She stayed in my bedroom and kept it in my sock drawer. The gift that keeps on giving. I have been hoping that there would be a þorrablót in the area, but they seem to have discontinued it.

And then there is Hákarl. Be sure to have some Brennivin handy!

  • Ha ha @Paulieworld … I’ve been vegetarian for 40+ years, given the Lutefisk in the sock drawer I’d probably eat the sock 😊
The Brennivin looks good though 🍸

    Very pleasant, thank you @GeoTony.
I see "GeoTenorSax" in your YT description, love this sound. So you prefer it more than SWAM saxes? I would like to buy one but still don't know which one. I don't have any MPE, just common MIDI keys and found this: "The The GeoSWAM instruments can ONLY be performed from the GeoShred keyboard or MPE controllers"

PS: I'm going to visit Norway late of August and I see I can looking forward to many things.

  • Hi @filo01 , many thanks for the listen and the comment 🙏
I have all of the SWAM Saxophones as well as GeoTenorSax and don’t really have a favourite. I use them all more or less equally. Geo… is easier to use with GeoShred as it’s built in. SWAM has more options but many of them are pretty niche.
The info about GeoSWAM only working with GS or MPE is incorrect. As long as the channel being used to play it is 2 or higher it will produce sound. What you lose (obviously) is all the expressiveness available when using MPE. These are a couple of videos I did a while ago comparing the two… PS I’m sure you will enjoy Norway 👌

  • This Geo/SWAM is still unknown territory for me so thanks a lot for your detailed information, @GeoTony!

  • A wonderful collection of music and video. Each “stop” is well worth the trip.

  • @GeoTony, dear Tony loved these Lofoten islands compositions very much. Great tenor sax on the first one! frenq
