EQ dynamic (like EQ ducking effect)

Do you know an iOS app that could be used like a « dynamic EQ », like ducking effect

The EQ would be active only if it detects signal from an other instrument.

My idea is to play guitar on several samples and I would like to cut the frequency guitar range on the sample to free these range and make room for the guitar

Klevgrand Goto EQ can do this, you can dial in the dynamic frequency at which it ducks.

Edit: GoTo EQ can't sidechain, the ducking happens only on the signal directly fed into it.

  • I often use FabFilter Pro-Q3 for this. Any EQ points you set up can be made 'dynamic' and triggered by an external side chain source.

+1 on Pro-Q3. I use the dynamic eq all the time. I find it easier and more musical than a multi band compressor. You can use it to tame some frequency builds and have a more even response, for example if you raise the low end but don’t want excess “spikes” with say the drum kick. Or you can side chain it to another track (with another pro-q instance) to, for example, reduce the low-end frequency of the bass when the kicks trigger, reducing the build up and getting more clarity.

  • Very interesting.

I don’t understand the double instance tip

My goal is to have guitar that control the dynamic eq : when the guitar is played, I want that the EQ lowers the frequency of the guitar in the others tracks

  • Another vote for Pro-Q3. As mentioned by the others above, side chaining is what you’re looking for here.

Sounds like a job for Pro-Q 3. I don't use dynamic EQing myself, but I know for sure that Pro-Q 3 gets the job done. :)

  • Each band of Scaler EQ can be made dynamic (with optional external side chain) if you want.
& I haven’t used this on iOS, but on the desktop, Toneboosters EQ also can make each of its band dynamic (with optional external side chain) as well. & toneboosters iOS plugins should have feature parity with their desktop siblings.

  • +1 for Toneboosters EQ.

You can use FAC Envolver as an FX on the guitar input. The guitar signal can then trigger the Envolver envelope and you can use the midi out from it to adjust any EQ that exposes its band gain/cut as AUv3 parameters.

You might also be able to use Caelum Audio's "Smoov", which would tame those volume differences. With some tweaking, you can really suppress a clipping and peaking signal. I use it all the time on guitar tracks.

  • FabFilter Pro Q3 does this.
