M1/M2/M3 performance test in desktop DAWs

edited June 2024 in Desktop

Extremely interesting performance test with quite shocking result…

Comments

  • Very extensive “Archetype Nolly” testing video. And very bad performance for certain DAWs. ;)

  • According to Ableton they're not using auxiliary cores due to instability, probably too much technical debt from single core CPU days in the early 2000s still.

  • Surprising result from Logic X for sure, reminding me of the audio stutters that Jacob Collier had with Logic in one of his recent videos 😉

  • A very interesting video. I'm surprised the Logic Pro X performs worst then Reaper.

  • Have there been any tests to show performance differences between iPad M processors using iOS DAW’s (e.g. Logic)?

Thinking about upgrading, but it’d be useful to know if there’s an actual decrease in performance, as demonstrated in the desktop video.

  • Nice, absolutely epic offtopic thread, first two comments on the topic and then twist 180 degrees and discussion about Youtube video embedding   this is soo much audiobus forum

If anybody interested to original topic, noticed this comment from author - so it looks not that bat actually.

  • I’m going to look into the reasoning behind decreasing the number of Performance Cores and increasing the number of Efficiency Cores. I have an M1-based iPad Pro so the benefits of M1 chips
for Music Making might be important for me over the newer models with M2 chips.

Apple of course, does not prioritize music making as the core use case for iPads but what we can do still amazes me thanks to the efforts of thousands of IOS developers making tools for us.

    .

  • Yeah I was gonna say the same on the off topic garbage, but was letting it playout like the AB forum does

I was wondering the same thing about if Live12 made a difference or not.

  • My daw is an i7 it works good for what I do…kinda bogus I can’t use chromaglow on it…but it is what it is.

  • Informative. It does not surprise me at all that Reaper would be most efficient. I would have been surprised if it wasn't.
