Nembrini’s high gain amps comparison.

edited June 7 in General App Discussion

I use four high gain amp sims at different gain settings.
Do you hear any differences?
If so,which ones?
Which is your favorite one?
I will give you my thoughts after your comments.
Thanks.

  • I can’t peg a difference between any of them. I’m eager to have someone put out a strong opinion or preference just to believe there’s a difference but I’m not able to detect that difference.

  • Perhaps the first cab is a tad shriller - the rest seem to be very samey to each other and slightly throatier than the first cab.

I’m guessing @flo popped in to see if it was just him that can’t hear much of a difference in these amp sims… He mentioned on his Youtube channel that he’s switch to Tonex for all his amp sim uses.

  • If I had to rate them in order it would be 1, 4, 2, 3. I like the how the harmonics (pinched and natural) sound best on Amp#1. Amp#2 has the best punch and clarity. Amp#3 had a bit more grit in the distortion but overall I liked it least. Amp#4 had the second best harmonics and a bit more bite than #1. But considering how personal guitar tone is I can imagine there will be many different opinions.

  • I must admit i was a little anxious about how to describe the differences i heard in this test.
It is not always easy to do when english is not your mother language.
    I’m a happy guy,@MadeofWax did it for me,and in a nice way,
    Thanks a lot!
Yes,i can hear clear differences between all these amps.
My favorite one is the ecstazy(the first one).
I like the organic sound of the slo 100 a lot.
I must admit i have been very surprised by the Mesa one.Super fun to play.
The 8180 sounds good but it is the less exciting to my ears.

  • @McD ,
To be fair, sonic differences between these amps are clearly audible to me,but the fact that i have played them surely plays a role in this😉.

  • The Xtasy is my favorite amp sim on iOS. It does clean and edge of breakup as well as high gain. I feel like it responds to dynamics very much like a real amp.

  • @espiegel123,
Yes, the xtasy sounds really good.
    Very musical tone.
The slo is much more organic to my ears, but that is personal taste😉.

I’ll have to give SLO sim (Nembrini calls it BST something if I remember right) another spin. It has been quite a while since I used it.

I am pleased that there are fine points that a good guitarist can detect and enjoy. It also makes me feel better about the 40 Nembrini Amps and FX apps I own.

This last sentence made my day😉😂.
    Thanks.

I had to stop buying at some point… they are just too productive and I wouldn’t know a Bogner from
    a Soldano.

  • @flo nice demo! I definitely hear a difference, the first amp sounds the best to me, I guess that must be the BgExtasy. It’s so versatile from clean to lower gain Plexi to high gain. However, when I play the Bst100 I hear what I call an “upper-mids tickle” that is irresistible. So I think we’re in agreement here. Bst100 was my favorite for a long while, the only caveat being that it needs a good amount of adjusting.

I’m also a big fan of the Cali Reverb because it has a great clean sound. For high gain it just needs the bass cut.
