Why does Logic always jump to iCLoud at start?

Every time I start Logic on the iPad, it always jumps straight to iCLoud and then stays there? Shutting down the app and restarting does nothing,

In fact the only way I can get it to stay in the app, is to delete it, the re-install it, but then after I close it down and start it again it just goes back to this behavior!

Can anyone tell me why this happens, and is there a way to stop it?

  • Go to the iPad settings and make sure Logic uses 'On This iPad' instead of iCloud for the storage.

  • You mean Logic Pro is trying to open a file from your iCloud account and then it locks up?

Try turning off wifi on the iPad and then start LP. See what happens.

    that option is not available?

Try a shut down and restart of your iPad before going any further.

Oh that, yes it is....bu it makes no difference it still jumps straight to iCloud as soon as it starts. And further, the Logic data folder is located in both sections, "On My iPad" and also in i"Cloud", and I can delete neither!

  • maybe it's a thing of the new version, that you have to open a new project (or indeed even an old project) from within the storage area, either cloud on on iPad local. There is a tab there for New Project and when you tap that it goes back to Logic....

When opening Logic Pro for iPad, and it directs you to iCloud, scroll to find the ‘Logic Pro for iPad’ folder, then tap to open and you can either choose one of your existing projects or start a new one by tapping ‘+’ on the top of the screen. After opening an existing project or when started a new one, make some adjustments in the song (whatever you like) and press the arrow button on the top left. By doing this, it not only saves your project, but also makes the ability to start directly from this folder every next time you open Logic Pro for iPad. This should work 100%. If not, sent me a reply by quoting this comment and describe what you encounter in as much detail as possible. Good luck! 🍀

What if I don't want to use iCloud?

What if I don't want to use iCloud?

Then select a location on your iPad and create a new the project there?

Just so it’s clear, the file browser that’s opening and showing Logic’s iCloud files is still part of Logic. It’s just the Files app functionality that any app uses for browsing files, right? (Except for adding samples in Logic, haha 🤪 )

When you tap the Create Project button in the local (non-iCloud) Logic folder in this Logic file browser, you should have that local folder open up next time your start Logic. Is this not happening?

  • I should add that this does throw me every time, because there’s no particular visual feeeback to indicate that you’re in Logic. It totally feels like I’m in the Files app.

There's a BIG 'Logic Pro' label top left on the screen showing which app is being used :)
Tapping on the folder name above the files shows where the files are located.

I'm so used to dealing with Files.app it's become 2nd nature to me.

I am not used to it, so it does feel alien.

Haha, I work in UX, and that should indeed theoretically work for me, but it didn’t stand out in my memory when I thought about it. 😂

I think it’s the absence of any other memorable cue: unless the app’s come out of recent hibernation, it’s the first screen Logic presents to the user, and in every other way I can think of besides that text label, it’s essentially a Files screen. At least in my memory.

It might be a content vs presentation issue for my brain. Off the top of my head, both Loopy Pro and AUM hold on their logos for a second while they load. If I were designing Logic and needed to follow the existing logic that we open on the file browser (which for contrast Loopy never does — because the project browser is not the app’s “home” in its hierarchy, it always opens where you left off on a project, with its very distinctive interface), I would do something like a Loopy/AUM logo splash screen for dramatic effect, even if loading was instantaneous.

In any case, I’ve never actually thought the Logic file browser was something other than what it is, but I do nonetheless find it disconcerting every time I open the app.
