Interesting Times
IWAVESTATION, Pure Piano, iFretless Acoustic Bass, Nambu, DRC, Sunrizer, Jubal Flute, Mersenne, Piano Motifs, Other Desert Cities, Discord, MagicDeathEye, and about a dozen or more audio samples that I timestretched and pitchshifted beyond recognition.
People seem to like dark music. Go figure. Personally I prefer the light. However, I tried to make this the darkest, most ominous, evil sounding track ever.
There is an old Chinese saying… May you live in “interesting” times.

Like it. There is a little something of John Carpenter.
The voices are not needed here: serve no purpose, and actually takes a little from the “darkness” you intended. Same with the hi pitched glossy bells. Everything else is great, especially the guitars at the end.
You’re still far from the dark evil thing IMHO, you must be too much lost in the light already. Anyways, this is a very interesting atmospheric piece of music.
Thank you, Joseph! This is exactly the type of feedback that I joined ABF for in the first place. It's nice to hear that somebody likes my track, but it's so much better when they tell me specifically what they liked or disliked. I probably won't change anything in this one, but you put the thought in my head for the future.
When I was making this, I accidentally stumbled across that vocal bit in a Blocs Wave pack. I thought... that's really weird. I was in a mood for that. Do it. Towards the end, I had a few seconds to kill and thought... do it again. After all, it's my music.
I have only been a "composer" for a few short years. Prior to this I played in dozens of bands for 40+ years, covering other people's music. Honestly, I was very content with that. I just loved playing in bands in front of an audience. In 2004, our two sons were taken, and I completely checked out for about 16 years. A few years ago wife told me about people who were making music on these iPad things, so I got one and here I am.
Regarding light and dark, I know that many are into that dark sound. I understand that it's hip and cool to to be a tortured artist. Having experienced the real thing, I just pray that nobody else has to go through it. It's not a good place.
I am hesitant to call myself a "composer". It sounds like I'm trying elevate myself into the ranks of real composers. It's a good thing to shoot for, so I'm trying... very trying! So, to sum it all up... I really appreciate when someone I respect and admire takes a few moments to share their thoughts about music and life. I always welcome your input. It will make me a better composer.
It seems to be going somewhere. Maybe like lemmings for the cliff? I liked the guitar chords at the end.
Your music, your composition, your choice. Nothing wrong about that. If you compose, then you are a composer. It is that simple.
My opinion is just that, an opinion. What doesn’t work for me will very likely work for a lot of people.
The tortured artist thing is pretty much unrelated to the creation of dark stuff. Most of the great composers that did some of the darkest music weren’t tortured, they were talented and very hard working.
LOL that sounds like a good song title. Thanks for listening!
I can hear this in a sound track for a Western movie, set in a dystopian future with an all robot cast. I like it.
Nice work @Paulieworld!
The percussion sounds along with the driving beat give this an almost hypnotic quality and the vocal textures near the 3:25 mark almost sound like some sort of chant. There is an ominous undertone that does give this a darker feeling. It works for me.
@reezygle @MadeofWax Thanks guys, and thanks for the like on SC. I love the idea of a dystopian Western. Maybe a cross between Have Gun Will Travel, Metropolis, and Blazing Saddles. Throw in a commercial for a local used car dealer somewhere in the middle. All black and white. What do you think, Mac? Just a crazy thought.
Well I thought it might be fun to test out Luma, the latest video tool with your concept. Not quite ready for what I want just yet. This is what it made from three images I created. I'm sure it will get better in time.
LOL! That's hilarious. A grainy black & white rendering like a 1960s TV drama would be an interesting spin. A complete contradiction. New school + old school. Whatever you come up with will be outstanding. Whether it's this track or any other, I am always jazzed by your work. Whenever you're ready. Just have fun!
@MadeofWax this is awesome 😄
That’s nicely different for you, Paul. I think @jo92346 is right if you’re going for pure horrorshow. lol, you probably have it in you. Not sure it’s worth it, though.
Thanks, Mike. I like to try “different” things. As I was telling Mac in another post, some new directions inevitably lead to dead ends, but the journey is the reward. Maybe I just need some frickin’ sharks with laser beams attached to their heads.
No darkness detected here… I enjoyed the relentless nature of the piece and a lovely mix of instruments but the vocals didn’t do much for me 🤔
