AUv3 app comparable to Logic’s Mastering Assistant?
I’m a dedicated AUM user. Not a big fan of iPad DAWs. But I did pay for a subscription to Logic simply because the Mastering Assistant is fantastic! I’m not using any other feature really. But I can’t rationalize paying $4.99 a month for that feature alone. Is there a mastering app comparable to what Logic offers? Thanks in advance for any help.

Short answer, no…
But, why not sub when you need MA and then unsub until next time you need the best iPad platform can offer?
But, if you need it every month, you need it every month, and, you have an easy decision…
Trinity is an interesting app if you want to do it yourself using a reference track. You could use one of your own tracks mastered in Logic as a reference for example.
This is a good idea. I may stick with it. Maybe sample some of the instruments, which are fantastic. I do have Logic on a iMac, but use it less and less. It’s too old anyway.
Yeah. I’ve read that both Trinity and DeadEyeStereo are both good. But I love the automation of Logic’s Mastering Assistant. I was surprise when I used the demo how powerful and simple it is.
Well @day_empire I will say this - for AI Mastering, you can't beat Logic's $5/subscription versus, say, $5/track for Waves' AI Mastering. $5/month gets you unlimited mastering of tracks.
However these days, I'm using Grand Finale 2. It's superb and has a surprisingly decent selection of mastering presets. Just select a preset, adjust the input gain to get your desired loudness level (mine is around -14LuFS, but your tastes may vary), and voila. You have a nice polished track.
I haven’t looked at Logic’s tool yet but Klevgrand’s Grand Finale is a ‘finisher’ tool as well.
And if @MusikHackSam ever brings the full Master Plan to iOS then that is a strong recommendation too. Especially with the new update they’ve just released on desktop. The current cutdown version on iOS can still help with loudness goals as well.
I’m sitting here waiting for any developer to get us an AUv3 app that “Masters” with an incredibly similar set of tools and GUI, especially the apparent AI equalization and compression.
Thanks for the response! I have Grand Finale 2 and that was my preferred mastering until Logic’s Mastering Assistant. I admit being clueless on details and go with sound. I’m nowhere near a professional, just an avid amateur doing ambient and drones for fun.
Grand finale 2 (not AI but it’s just as good if you try it out) or as mentioned Cubasis is a self contained unit just like Logic now.l, highly recommend Cubasis w/IAP for all DAW needs (but that’s me)
In that case, I think Logic Pro's monthly subscription may suit you just a bit better than Grand Finale 2. I admit I haven't done Ambient and Drones in a while, lol.
Deadeyestereo - i cannot find it?
Magic Deadeye Stereo ( not to be confused with Magic Deatheye which was a mono hardware implementation ( but does stereo on IOS). It’s a hardware model of a studio compressor famous for mastering and generic compression tasks.
In combination with BarkFilter’s TripleBand preset with the limiter engaged for EQ tweaking you get results to rival a mastering app… it has been called the best kept secret on IOS by everyone that just blurts out our secrets.
@mcd thank you. My lips are sealed!
I bought Grand Finale 2 for desktop and it actually is pretty good. I still tend to lean the most on Logic Pro's Mastering assistant because it is so thorough.

That's true. Logic's Mastering Assistant is super thorough. ❤️
For the price.. as annoying as subscriptions are.. Logic on iPad offers immense value, some people would probably pay the fee just for the mastering assistant alone.
IMO if you can afford it, it's one of the only subs that I think is actually worth it.
I don't have a need for it - I use Logic on iPad, but I still have the sub (yearly) just so I've got access to Logic on iPad whenever I want, cross-device stuff is great too, tbf.
But I wanna throw this in - the mastering assistant on its own isn't the be-all-end-all, I've mastered a few tracks for some friends now where I've used the mastering assistant, and also offered my own master (no assistant) and the mastering assistant has never been chosen over my own work.
I love the MA as a quick reference point though, I use it in my own workflow for mastering, just because I like hearing what it does, then I'm always like "ah, awesome.." then I go from there and don't replicate what the MA did, but more like.. take the relevant aspects and go from there.
It doesn't always nail the vibe, that's the problem. Sometimes it'll give a folk-rock track a big thumping EDM-styled low end boost, that sort of thing. I still like it.
I can say the same thing about the session player AI's as well - I play keys and bass, and have already done a few songs for friends where I've laid down keys and/or bass, and offered the session player track (after it's been tweaked to suit the song as best as I can), and my own recorded takes, and the AI so far has never been chosen.
Drummer is invaluable though. I can't drum very well, and I feel it's more fleshed out - this could be bias because I don't drum, though, perhaps other people have done the same thing I'm doing, but with Drummer and their own drum tracks, and Drummer never wins.
I've sent through numerous Drummer tracks to people and they've preferred it over their own programmed drums - but none of these people so far have been drummers, so I want to highlight that.
Anyway, still, despite the mastering assistant (and AI players) never winning vs my own work, I do think it's a great tool and more than worth the subscription.
I've been working WITH the mastering assistant lately, haven't sent through any work doing this to anyone yet - but on my own stuff for the last two weeks, I've really been loving the results I get using Mastering Assistant, then working with what that did and tailoring it to fit the song more, and then using ChromaGlow alongside it on the master/main track to add some warmth or glue to the whole track and IMO the results have been absolutely fantastic.
Huge fan of ChromaGlow.
Despite the changes to session drummers, I think it's still important to massage the suggested performance to best suit your song. It's capable of some very interesting subtleties if it's tweaked.
And I think everyone who has used ChromaGlow is absolutely in love with it. I've used it on all kinds of tracks and it is fantastic.
Yeah, all the session players require pretty drastic changes to suit what you're doing - which is fine.
IMO the session players need a few more genres/styles thrown in - there's nothing for blues, jazz or country for a start, I'm not huge on those styles personally but there's been a few times already where those styles would perfectly suit what I'm after. You could tailor a blues or country style to suit folk or folk-rock, for example. Blues would be super handy for a slew of different things.. but no dice.
I hope those three get added eventually because I find the session keys and bass to be really limited. Drummer has been around for longer and is pretty obviously more fully realised, I love it. If Apple expands on the keys and bass the way drummer has been, that would be super cool.
ChromaGlow has replaced most of my saturation needs, I absolutely love it, I'm the sort of person that will stick to stock plugins when and where possible so it's amazing to not have to use third-party stuff (I know not everyone is the same..), it doesn't replace tape emulation though, so there's still room for RC-20 and my other tape emulators (on Mac btw, no idea if RC-20 is on iPad, if it isn't, it should be, I use it on like every song..).
@jwmmakerofmusic thank you for the links. Appreciated.
Thanks to all for the great comments!
