Cubasis 3 stuttering
There's a thread on the Cubasis forum about this, but asking here too: has anyone noticed Cubasis 3 randomly stuttering, and a play head jittering (not moving smoothly) during playback?
I was working on a song with a track that had a synth pluck going into a dotted 8th delay, and it was pretty noticeable. Bounce to audio and the waveform was right in line with the ruler. But the playback would randomly stutter.

Yeah, had this on my old iPad with IAA and active multi core processing, disabling the multi core feature did the trick.
I'm using an old iPad...12.9 pro 1st gen (A9x, 4GB RAM).
Interesting that multi core feature degrades usability...should be the opposite.
Anyway, I will try it and see. I had the buffer set really high as well thinking it was CPU related. (didn't fix it). Also will try on my iphone with an A13
What is your CPU/DSP like? I’ve seen this happen when it’s an AUV3 that doesn’t play nice in Cubasis 3 and sometimes it can be remedied by switching off multicore processing. Most of the time though, this is best left engaged. I’ve also seen it happen when people are using an interface powered off the iPad instead of a hub. And, I’ve seen it when a sample is used that has the wrong sample rate for the project, though that should not be the issue here.
Thanks @Jamie_Mallender for the advice!
It was pretty weird. Had about 5 instances of Synthmaster 2 going (pluck 1, pluck 2, pad, bass, lead) to make a sequenced ambient type song a la S1gns 0f L1fe. Was just trying some different things to find a good sound and maybe finish a track (for once!)
The plucks kept getting out of time randomly. Wouldn’t happen in the same spot…each playback was different. Thought it might be CPU/DSP even though they were pretty low, around 20%. So, froze the audio on the pluck tracks. Audio waveform aligned with the ruler, so it must be the playback just stuttering from time to time.
Buffer was next to highest setting (21.3ms) and multi core was on default.
I’ve since deleted the track and started again with some other synths (Synthmaster One). Also switch from my old IPad 12.9 1st Gen (A9x) to my IPhone SE 2nd Gen (A13). Hopefully this time as I build it, I won’t get that stuttering.
Probably do the mix after bouncing the stems on the old iPad for the bigger screen.
I just want to finish a track without running into bugs!
I had some heavy stuttering any time the arrange window was scrolled or updated - CPU was maxing out. Turning off the high-quality waveform display fixed it for me.
(M1 pro 12.9", everything up-to-date, wasn't experiencing this issue on same projects previously so this might be a bug introduced in last update.)
@Loups thanks for the advice! My clips are still midi…will this waveform display setting help I wonder?
Anyway abandoned the iPhone setup and built again on the iPad. So far so good…no stuttering. Buffer is 10.7ms and multi core is set to High.
