Fair Limiter is an AUv3 audio unit plugin that digitally replicates the Fairchild 670, a legendary and highly esteemed tube compressor/limiter renowned for its outstanding audio quality and unique sonic character.
Features:
- Use as an AUv3 plugin in GarageBand, Logic Pro, AUM, or other DAW
- Digital emulation of the Fairchild 670
- Features all the controls of the legacy Fairchild 670
- Adds additional control with the sidechain filters and boost
- Variable-Mu compression
- Fast attack, slow release times
- 6386 tube simulation
- Stereo or Mid/Side setup
- Linking of stereo controls and sidechain output
The free version allows you to test Fair Limiter completely, but every minute the limiter will be silent for 3 seconds. To remove these limits there is a one time in-app purchase.

I have not tried it yet, but a big compliment for the developer for the free to try demo, that’s the spirit.
I cannot make it work…
I just checked - opened fine for me in AUM just now, and seems to be working as expected. Reinstall maybe?
Talk about taking on a holy grail piece of kit! Interesting.
If it it’s the same Jan Maes then he literally wrote a book on digital audio so may this is the right person for the task…

The controls are a bit jumpy. It needs presets as well IMO. Will spend some time with the sound.
Yes it opens but it doesn’t limit and that’s a bit annoying for a limiter. CPU usage is very bad too. Well let’s wait for other opinion, for me it’s a no go
It is also the same guy behind the excellent and free jAmp Bleep generator!
Right!
(Is that you, Jan?)
Hi all,
Yes that's me. (The bleep app, I didn't write a book. There are plenty of Jan Maes'es where I live. )
If the CPU usage is too high, you can lower the CPU usage by lowering the upsample rate from x8 (default) to x4. There is a drop down in the top left corner. It will lower the quality of the result. I liked it best at x8, but it's indeed heavy.
It's a digital emulation of the Fairchild 670, so it should behave similarly as described in the Fairchild 670 manual ( https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://archive.org/details/Fairchild_670_owners_manual&ved=2ahUKEwi3g4b6-9uGAxUoTKQEHfb5DlIQFnoECAwQAQ&usg=AOvVaw3e0L68Pbu1Bn4obVSuwwth ), but I don't have access to a real Fairchild, so I couldn't check the accuracy.
If the app doesn't install correctly at first try, it's indeed often fixed by restarting your device (although on all my mobile devices it works immediately).
I have a small demo on YouTube here:
Hi @janm31415 - good to know 👍
Access Analog have a hardware clone you can run audio through if you want to put your emulation against one iteration of a Fairchild: https://accessanalog.com/product/strohm-1660-compressor/
Congrats on the release. And Bleep is awesome 😎
Jade Starr did a demo on the Fair Limiter app:
