App’s sample rates vs device’s native sample rate.
I’ve been wondering this for a while.
I’m trying to streamline my set up and make it as efficient as possible. Drambo is doing an absolutely sterling job at keeping things light and sharp but I’ve been wondering about the sample rates and latency settings.
I know that the lower the sample rate and the higher the latency samples number the lower the CPU load.
Does it make any difference what’s device’s native sample rate if there’s such a thing?
Has anyone carried out any at least vaguely scientific observations?

you mean the ipad?
if you use an audio device then you have the options of that device. like you said higher the sample rate lower latency and more cpu used on the ipad.
also buffer settings, the lower the buffer, the lower the latency and higher cpu.
when i bought my last PC i bought the fastest CPU i could afford to lower latency.
some audio devices run at lower latencies due to the driver software they produce in house and the chip they implement.
Yes, I mean an iPad or an iPhone. I have a 4th gen iPad Pro that leaves me enough headroom for live use at low buffer setting but I wasn’t quite sure about the sample rate since generally that is preselected and often at the higher than the minimum setting even on my humble iPhone 6s which prompted my curiosity.
I’ve recently switched to iPhone 12 Pro for live to eliminate the massive screen and be more hardware controller focused/oriented but that gives me less fire power since my question.
So @Danny_Mammy the lower sample rate the lower cpu load no matter what device I’m using?
If you're not using the native sample rate of the device, then the final audio has to be resampled before being sent to the D/A converter. However the overhead for this is ridiculously small these days, probably on the order of less than 1%, so it is a non-issue.
There's also a (likewise ridiculously small) quality loss involved when resampling, so all in all, if you can ensure your app is using the native sample rate internally with little effort, then it doesn't hurt doing so.

We’ll, I’ve tried lowering the sample rate to 41000 and it seems like not even 6s supports it so that’s that 😬😂
