"Shadows Of The Alvord" - My first 100% iOS/iPadOS track in years

This track started out as a sketch in Ableton Note on my iPhone, and I initially had every intention of finishing it up in Live on the laptop. However, the release of the M4 iPad Pro and the Logic Pro update made me decide to give that a try to complete the song instead.
I never really bonded with Logic for iPad when it was first released, but for some reason the second time around it just clicked and I found everything very intuitive and fun to use. I think it was embracing using the Apple Pencil Pro for my Logic sessions, it just put me into a different mind set. I find the same is true when I do photo or video editing on the iPad, having the Pencil really makes a lot of things easier to do.
Anyway, I brought the iPad with me on a long camping trip with friends to the Alvord desert in SE Oregon and got so inspired by the beauty of that place I finished up the track in less than a day. It was such a good experience overall using Logic on the iPad, that I've since converted all my tracks in progress from Ableton Live projects to Logic ones. The plan is to release an album of new songs by the end of summer, and this track is the first one from that album that I wanted to share as a teaser.
All music and the photos are from your's truly. Enjoy.

Well made. I liked your dark, low contrast images.
Thanks! I like the creepy dark kind of photos
Another great track, as usual! Can't wait to hear the full album !
The photographs are gorgeous and match the vibe of track !
Oh man that is gorgeous! I can't wait for the full album. It's like Dark Ambient meets Minimal Techno or something. Good god. You sure know how to crank out a tune.
I'm unable to use Logic to fully realise a song due to me wanting to work faster to complete songs, but that's just me personally. Ymmv and other forum tropes and sayings, lol. That all being said, I always admire those who can use Logic on iPad to its fullest potential, and this track above definitely is Logic used to its fullest potential!
My needs are pretty simple when it comes to a DAW, just basic cut, copy, paste, fade in and out. I can jump around between DAWs pretty quickly not needing to learn the finer points of each one
Me I like DAWs and DAWlike apps that have unique features besides just the basics. Gadget fits that bill quite nicely, as does Nanostudio 2, and FLSM. Koala Sampler, while not a DAW is another creative environment I love.
That said, regarding fuller DAWs, I love Cubasis 3 for recording vocals and mastering my music. ❤️
I've used Cubasis the most out of all the iPad DAWs, definitely a good feature set and a bit simpler workflow than Logic for sure. I do tend to like the effects and instruments in Logic a bit better though I think, just a broader range of tools. That new ChromaGlow is sick.
Oh yes, Logic's internal effects and synths far exceed Cubasis' in pretty much every way. Then again, I'm an iPhone musician these days as I prefer the smaller form factor, and my Mini has only 256gb. 😂
I hear you, this is my first foray back into producing on an iPad in a LONG time. Usually it's just Note or Groovebox on the iPhone to get things going, and I do the rest on the laptop or hardware grooveboxes. It's been fun mixing things up a bit this time around, I'm curious to see how long this lasts me before I get bored and buy a Digitakt II LOL.
Anyway, thanks for listening!
Lol! Fair enough.
Of course mate.
Minimal, but nice. A track that breezes along, and showcases some nice patches.
How’s the battery life on your iPad Pro? Nice track!
Unfortunately, I'm listening on some cheap desktop speakers in my office. What I see and hear sounds really good. I'm looking forward to hearing this in my "good" headphones when I get home tonight.
Lovely build up and the pulsing rhythm gently takes you along for the ride - nice pics, too. Hope everything goes to plan.
Excellent, maybe slightly better than the M2 iPad Pro was when new. Impressive for the size!
Nice work! I like the contrast between the dark drone and the more upbeat melodies.
What a difference from my office speakers! I love the deep booming bass tones and the unrelenting beat. The subtle hi-hats on top are just right. Imagery is cool. I think the choice to do black and white goes really well with the music. It looks like a cool place. Reminds me a bit of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Great track!
Thanks for coming back around to listen on better speakers! Definitely a lot of low end on this one, so glad you enjoyed it on something a bit bigger.
And yes, the Alvord is very similar to Bonneville, lots of people trying speed records out there, it’s a pretty wild place to make music in!
What @jankun said. But too short.
The first of many hopefully… nice track, relaxing but at the same time keeps moving along with a great beat 👌
Wow, this is beautiful! Well worth a focused listen and watch!
Thank you. I was really trying to strip away as many of the drum and percussion elements as I could on this one, just the bare minimum and see how much energy I could retain. Fun little experiment, I’m very happy with how it turned out.
Thanks! I think I’m going to keep doing these little videos for my singles that I release. Plus, fun way for me to show some of my photography too. 📷
Yah that shot of the parasailer is quite cool! Lately I always intend to post some tracks but then I end up dissecting them to put on finishing touches / polish them up but just end up spreading myself too thin across a bunch of tracks and then starting new ones heh.
After 20 years + of helping other people polish and put the finishing touches on their tracks, I’m pretty lazy about it when it comes to mine. It gets to a point where I’m like “yeah, this isn’t going to really get any better if I keep making 0.5% changes”. All my songs I always have much more grand plans for than what ultimately ends up working at the end of the day. 🤷♂️
As always this is great stuff from you
I would almost be jealous had I not spoken to you to know your a humble and nice dude and helpful too
Anyway nice work man
( real Team TE prefers Team Cubasis lol jk)
👍🏼
Nice tune and video!
Nice! Love the way the low frequencies and drums are always there but never overpower the mix, producing a expansive sound with an underlying sense of activity and excitement that the video fits very well.
