Hello!

Hi everyone.

I'm into synthesizers of all types, and have recently been getting deeper into using my iPad for various musical creative tasks. I go back and forth between hardware and software phases, but as I dig into the iOS-based options I'm finding some good hybrid workflows that suit what I'm doing pretty well. This has inspired me to start development on some related apps, as well.

Between exploring the existing options, and doing basic development research on my own projects, I've come across posts on this forum quite a few times...so after being a lurker for a bit I thought it'd be good to actually join the conversations.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

    Nice one, greetings Tom!

  • Hi 👋

  • Welcome. :) Pleasure to meet you.

  • Hi & welcome!
May I ask what kind of apps you're about to make?
I think this forum is the best choice if you want a community that literally knows every music related iOS app out there 😊

    Thank you!

Currently I'm closest to completion on a motion/collision-based MIDI sequencer and modulator. It has some similarities to a small selection of existing apps, but it's novel in several ways. I'll have some more to share about that soon. The app also has an internal synth, mostly for reference a-la Senode or Zoa, and I plan to develop the synth engine into its own app(s). Mostly, though, I'm into sequencers right now.

I have been impressed with the amount of knowledge here, for sure. I've learned about a lot of the apps I now own from reading discussions here, and the dev knowledge around things like AUv3 MIDI timing has been a huge help!

  • Welcome and good luck with the development :-)

Can't have too many sequencers. The nice thing about AUv3 is being able to chain them together. Good luck!

  • I hope you also join the fraternity of creators who share some of their musical productions here… usually with SoundCloud or BandCamp embeds or links.

It helps inspire more to share and it’s always a safe place without an excess of trolls to pick at the carcass of your baby. Still… it takes a leap into the void of criticism which often ends in turning off creativity. Repeated sharing leads to a smaller dedicated following… giving positive, supportive feedback helps get a similar response. The virtuous circle grows with input as creator and critic.

    All genres have their supporters.

  • Hi, and your app sounds promising :)

Thank you! A bit of luck with software projects never hurts.

Thanks, and I agree. To be honest I skipped out on AUv3 in general for a long time because I have a pile of desktop software and VSTs already. When I attempted to replace my cumbersome "DAWless" recording setup with AUM and some plugins on an iPhone, my eyes were opened.

Hi, and thanks! I'm looking forward to sharing more about it when it's far enough along.

Thanks for the nudge, I'd love to share some work and feedback with the community here! I agree it is intimidating, especially with a group of like-minded and talented people, but who better to learn and grow from?

  • Welcome @tom_ward!

Most music app devs are here and it’s a great place to share ideas and get feedback.

Looking forward to your apps. Happy to beta test for you when you’re ready.

    Cheers

  • Welcome!

  • Welcome to the forum. Lots of good people here. I can't think of a better place to learn more about making music on the iOS platform.

  • Welcome aboard, mate!

Thanks, I'm looking forward to being able to share them. I'd love to send you the beta when it's ready! I'll be posting something when I get to that point.
