JAX ONE Frequency Shifter

I think everyone’s too scared to make a thread for this one… I’m trying the TestFlight beta for it (link in AppStore description).
How do you utilize what look like patch cable jacks (ENV, LFO, DLY)?
Comments
Brave man! I think they're just decorative, tbh, but I have not read the manual yet. Seems like if they did anything, it would just be a matter of pressing on one jack and dragging to another, but that doesn't work. I do really appreciate that the dev keeps open betas for these, and I like the sounds this app can make.
They do seem to be decorative. I wonder why they’re labeled in that case?
Ok, will have more of a play.
I have the idea that’s still something he is working on?
I’m really glad the developer allowed us to beta test this. It’s a $35 CDN app and up against some really stiff competition when it comes to frequency shifters on iOS. I have tested it against Frekvens, Discord4, MagicPitch, Motion FX. Theres also modules in Drambo and MiRack supposedly but haven’t tried those.
So this JAX one sounds good. The Scale control is really interesting and I’m not sure the other apps have that. However, I have always struggled with the JAX user interfaces. There’s a brightness slider but this goes from quite dark to bright but with heavy shadows. I also find the unfeeze 3D modelling effect fun but ultimately just eye candy that doesn’t add anything to the workflow.
The scale controls are where it’s at but that’s not enough to pay $35 when I already have the above frequency shifters.
I agree with all that. I think the frequency shifting in this is excellent (though it still makes a tiny noise when crossing zero), but it is priced at a level that will likely mean extemely few sales in this market. That's not a subjective opinion, it's a fact. > @gusgranite said:
+1 to all that
This app was discussed briefly in the Sales thread...it was compared favourably with Echobode, one of my favourite VSTs. I really like the demos on Youtube but haven't pulled the trigger yet to buy due to the reported clicking and the fact I have several other similar apps...still very curious about this one though
You don't need to pull the trigger before buying, that's the beauty of having the beta access. Maybe you will still find a working link on audio.digitster.com
Drambo is quite good but cant compare to any freq shifter.
I use on a per track drum machine basis of 10 fac drum ( or blipbox ) au instances and gain a lazy way to program drums or p lock drums.
The freq shifter is better than fac drums own pitch amount.
good point Gav, I did just check the website and I think i've missed the opportunity but i'll keep an eye on it for future betas that take my fancy
i did notice this release note from 2.02
i guess you've got the latest version and the issue persists?
Sadly, yes, on latest version. It is better than before, but I wouldn’t call it corrected, it is definitely still there.

Test flight is still up. All the test flights are here: https://audio.digitster.com/testflight-betas
Again, I salute the dev for allowing people to demo the apps via test flight, that’s great
Indeed! If only we could all be friends
Knobs are not capable of multi touch. If I try and adjust LFO rate at the same time as the Frequency knob, one knob freezes while the other jitters about like mad. Every app designed for iOS should be multitouch capable.
An observation about the clicking when crossing zero on Frequency knob - it seems more noticeable on some Scale types than others. More noticeable on Log than on 5k Hz, for example. Edit - no, it’s pretty obvious on that too if moving quickly.
This has been the case since the first JAX plugin. They prioritise being able to zoom in and move around with ‘standard’ iPad gestures over being able to simultaneously adjust multiple parameters.
The new UIs take this one step further and you can move them around in 3D.
I know what id prefer multitouch to do in the UIs. The developer knows what he prefers too. and apparently it’s a scalable moveable in 3D UI.They’re his plugins after all.
Definitely not a trade-off I would make. Think I have to move on and forget about these, too many issues
I don’t know if you can adjust multiple parameters simultaneously if you press the freeze button? In JAX plugins, the freeze button locks the UI. :-/
Freeze is on by default, so no. Freeze function, in this plugin at least, is to stop touches making the UI rotate in 3D - a cool-looking but essentially useless feature. I can’t see a way to get it to respond to multi-touch
I thought not. I don’t have any JAX plugins installed anymore and couldn’t remember. I didn’t think multi touch was available — which would be really useful.
Multi touch is not a ‘nice-to-have’ as far as I’m concerned, yeah - it’s kind of a right, really, when it comes to iOS music software, one of the main advantages we have over desktop. It genuinely really bothers me when devs don’t implement it.
But think how much better your mixes will be if all your plugins can be rotated to a jaunty angle!
From the Jax webpage blog post "JAX ONE – Frequency Shifter Extended (scheduled super universal release)":
Our new user interfaces for the JAX ONE series are all based on real 3D environments and will render all graphics in realtime. Rather than using stitched still images captured from parallel camera projection, the 3D views allow any projection and movement of lights and so on, although this may be limited for useful perspectives finally.

Sigh..
There you go @CaelumAudio - inspiration for next year's joke day plugin.
Well I think he's reading right now - he updated the rants page on his site and has added a section mentioning you by name, which wasn't there when I previously read that page yesterday-ish Rather uncalled-for stuff, so dramatic.
Ooooh. I wanna be internet famous too. Maybe I shouldn't have deleted my earlier post. 🧐
All kidding aside, that rant blog post is epic. I do appreciate people unafraid to freely speak their mind in this day and age. I hope it's therapeutic in some way.
Seriously… @Michael doesn’t need this. Best to avoid.
Agreed
