Portable Recorder Audio in over USB -C

I can plug the iPad usb c into the Rodecaster Pro via usb c and record audio from the iPad into to Rodecaster.

Is there a portable recorder that can do that? The OG and Essentials zoom H6 can’t.

Thanks

I've used a Tascam X8 for this purpose, and it generally works well. It can be a bit fiddly getting the configuration right if connecting to a device that sees the X8 as an audio interface, because that makes the USB connection 2-way. The X6 is cheaper and has a lot of similarities, but I haven't used one personally to know how the USB functions.

Edit: I just did another test. When connecting the X8 to the iPad, the iPad will ask if the device is "headphones" or "other device". Selecting "headphones" makes recording directly via USB much less of a hassle.

  • Thank you for testing. I’m going to retest that with the Zoom to see if it makes a difference. Not holding my breath.

  • Did not work. I did contact Zoom. Maybe there’s a slight chance a firmware can open that up. For now, I’ll stick to screen recording until I can find something else.

If you end up looking for a replacement for the H6, I can recommend the X8. Mine replaced an H5. I might have bought the X6 though, if it existed at the time when I was looking.

Centrance Mixerface. You can simultaneously record to the built in SD card as well as say an iPhone running AudioShare too, nice safety back up. Someone here turned me on to these a couple years ago and I’m a huge fan now. Battery powered for hours as well.
