Formations - OP-1F and Modern Sounds Pluto
Pretty sweet little combo, especially since both are battery powered and do sync over USB-C. All the synth sounds except for a couple pads are one track of Pluto recorded in one pass live.

Mate I want to listen, but it says "this video is private" and won't let me access it on Youtube.
Sorry, don’t know what to tell you. I double-checked it’s set to public and other people have already listened and commented. 😞
Drums op1F?
Yes, but the samples are from a Rephrazer pack if I remember correctly. I was really trying to get a funky feel without resorting to the same old same old drum programming techniques for me. Endless sequencer in the OP-1 is great for that.
Interesting - didn’t think of using endless for drums but why not. I wanted to ask you about the kit but you just said it. Finger is great for just getting it down but you gotta make your own patterns to break the monotony - but endless may offer an alternate approach .
Very cool
Thanks for posting
Thanks. Normally I use Finger too, but it can get tedious programming all my patterns in that. I needed a change
Might've been a glitch in the Matrix, but now I listened. This is very well done mate. Makes me miss my OP-1 Field quite a bit.
I learned the hard way when I sold my OG OP-1, definitely hanging on to this one. That was one of the few bits of gear I frequently regretted selling. Happily the Field came along and is better in almost every way so I lucked out.
That's awesome. The only reason I sold my Field was to make ends meet. Which sucks. But I have more than enough to keep me occupied on iOS time being.
This is only a brief excursion back into hardware for me I think, I have soooo much going on in Logic Pro right now on the iPad. Just needed a reset to keep working on that stuff.
That's one reason I used the Op-1 Field when I did. Those three EPs of mine will live on in infamy on Soundcloud. Then again when I get stuck creatively in one app, then I switch to another. I made five tracks in NS2 and need to make a sixth (intro track) for my "The Return of NS2" EP, but now I'm fixated on Gadget. 😂
I jump gear constantly too. It's hard for me to stay fixated in one workflow even if they are only subtly different, device to device.
How do you balance the op-1 and op-z with anything else that advanced? I mean the op-z does so much for a little remote (and then the op-1f in incomparable too). But the op-z workflow is demanding and requires you to stay sharp (not as much with the op1-f, some things you might need to revisit tutorials but mostly it’s on screen)…the KO II has its own very specific and unique workflow. All of them are unmistakably TE but all their own unique product
Does it require daily or weekly practice to stay sharp? Like how many hours do you put on the op/z a week?
what are some other things you own that have the same level of complexity? (Eg deluge, digitakt ii, etc)
This is great!!! Experimental beats!!!!
Nah, I don’t practice or anything like that. Usually by the time I get ready to record a set with something like the OP-Z, I’ve been using it pretty consistently for a few weeks so it’s all fresh in my memory. And while the workflow can be demanding, at the same time once you “get” the workflow it’s pretty intuitive too. Definitely takes me a little bit to get back up to speed after some time away, but having owned the OP-Z since it was released that gets easier and easier with time.
Honestly most of the gear I own (or have owned) is probably more complex than then TE stuff. Octatrack, Kurzweil K2600XS, 707, 505, Hydrasynth, etc.
Thanks! I definitely was going for something a bit more out there, so glad my different way of programming drums (for me at least) is resonating with people.
I love it. Great sound and mood. You can definitely handle that little machine. I tried one a couple months ago. Didn’t work for me. I wanted to love it.
The Pluto or the OP-1F?
The op-1f
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, it’s definitely a unique workflow, and it’s so easy to lose your work if you make a single mistake. I LOVE that they added the option to clone tapes in a recent update though, finally at least some form of undo should that happen.
Nice juxtaposition of sounds, had to google the Pluto… looks interesting, more videos to watch 😊
Thanks, the Pluto is a fun little modular toy. Suits me much better than say the 0-Coast did.
