AUM keyboard switch

Does anyone know a way in AUM to have the built in keyboard or a MIDI keyboard automatically switch to the instrument you have selected?
This works in almost every daw,…. And having to manually switch the keyboard every time you change instruments is kinda a buzz kill, especially a MIDI keyboard and if you have complex routing going on.

Could be totally possible and I’m just missing it but idk!

Comments

  • Maybe a mosaic script or something could switch the MIDI keyboard to the currently selected app?

  • Not happy with Drambo at the mo

    But from the AUM days.

You can set Drambo to aum like this

So just selecting tracks at bottom of screen.

  • Aum

    Open 2 synths

    Open a drambo mfx

    Point keyboard at Drambo mfx

    Point Drambo mfx at synths

Make Drambo just be midi to cv tracks template with a midi out module on each track.

Set midi out on module ( output 1 ) on track 1

output 2 on track 2 etc.

    Then in aum channel filter.

Block all other channels apart from own channel.

Couldnt get it to work until I enabled AU midi input 1 ( in main settings ) and enabled track and control.

I didnt need but may if I go back to aum

    Surface builder.

You could map a surface builder so it appears at bottom of screen instead of drambo.

So it points at Drambo and maps to Drambo track buttons but also send surface builder to aum midi control so not only does switching tracks solve the 1 midi channel keyboard problem but also launches the synth you are keyboarding, so you can also tweak synth parameters.

I could maybe sort it with note data apps like xequence pads but cant be bothered.

    Easier with cc pads.

  • Just tap the little piano key icon top left in the plug-in window to assign the built-in keyboard to it…

Think he needs to not trigger all other synths.

    The Drambo posted sorts issue

but with a surface builder triggering the Drambo track buttons to switch synths.

It will also launch synth windows.

  • Its actually better than a keyboard with hardware midi switching because hardware midi switching probably wouldnt also launch the au windows upon switching tracks for keys.

  • A surface builder would be better as the controller but you still need Drambos ( per track midi basis ) and think you have Drambo.

With surface builder you can make buttons be a left hand screen strip etc.

Then scroll and launch aum tracks

( instead of launching au windows upon switching tracks )

Just in case you want to tweak a different synths parameter and not the synth you are keyboarding.

Tapping the keyboard in the AU title bar makes that window the sole target of AUM’s keyboard

Thank you man! I’m going to look into this after work! Appreciate the idea for sure!!

This works for the built in for sure but its a few more steps when using a MIDI controller 😅 and sometimes I’m trying to record a live jam and need it to switch immediately. I figured its just one small draw back of aum i can live with but was hoping for a way to just auto swap during live jams

That's definitely a 'feature request' for a future version of AUM when ever that drops.
Like auto-route selected controller to an active window...

As I'm primarily using LogicPro for iPad I spend less and less time building 'lego-daw-setups' in AUM :)

I keep trying with logic! But just so much about it seems like work… i want to like it but im struggling lol all the resizing of windows and configuring just makes me go back to the plug n play AUM.
I’ve been mostly using drambo and aum just out of the pure simplicity … but logic is on my too do list

I use the small tiles at the bottom to switch between plug-ins on a track when a plug-in is in full-screen mode, no re-sizing needed. I also keep the level meter/fader present at all times on the left side for the currently selected track.

Becoming 'friends' with the context sensitive Inspector is also something that is close to essential to get things rolling as many things are hiding in there (like midi-track routing among many other things).

The area that took me the longest to 'become friends with' was the live-loops grid...

But do what works for you :)

I definitely just want to spend some time with it. I like not having to add an atom or LK to every thing like i do in AUM to build a song. A lot of logic seems.. logical and immediate.
I struggled with the live loops but eventually was able to get them to record 🤣 but now its been a while so I’ll have to relearn. Good tips tho and def plan to master it asap

  • Did you try the Drambo ( midi per track switching of Drambo ) and not midi always )

Then use Aum to filter audio of any other channel (per channel )

    Like vid.

  • In vid.

I didnt really need to show the korgs midi input of channel 15 but guess its better to set the input channel ( which then outputs on different channels ) and then filtered in aum channels.

  • But surface builder will be better to trigger Drambo tracks, which then essentialy chooses which aum track plays.

Obviously you have the additional option of also launching the plugin, with the same track choose buttons.

But surface can be placed anywhere on screen. Probably bigger buttons per metre squared and maybe better writings on pads if needed. It has a bold text option, along with colours you might accociate with aum nodes.
