The Gator King. Logic Pro Mac demo.
While I was about to start working on finalizing my last project, watching something that fascinates me for some reason (swamp people), that song just popped up.
This is actually my first official attempt at making an actual song. Not to be taken seriously.
EDIT: Slightly updated version on bandcamp: https://josephbalson.bandcamp.com/track/the-gator-king
Down by the bayou swamp and mud lived a beast oh-so-grand
Legends say he ruled the land bigger than a full grown man
Scales tough as armor plates shining in the southern sun
Ain't no critter brave enough to make that big gator run
With a twang of the banjo we sing 'bout a king so mean
Snap ya like a twig
Oh boy
Ya best stay off his green
He'll sneak right up on ya when ya think ya safe and sound
Then up he pops like a devil straight outta the ground
Biggest gator in the swamp got jaws that snap like thunder
When he roars the waters part no escape his hunger
Mighty reptile creepin' slow famous in Lou’siana
Everybody runnin' fast when they see the gator banner
Biggest gator in the swamp got jaws that snap like thunder
When he roars the waters part no escape his hunger
Mighty reptile creepin' slow famous in Lou’siana
Everybody runnin' fast when they see the gator banner
Fishin' in the bayou wonderin' where that gator be
Holdin' tight my rod and reel hopin' he ain't eyein' me
A flash of teeth and shiny eyes from out the murky water
Ol' Gator King showin' us why he's the swampland's master
Biggest gator in the swamp got jaws that snap like thunder
When he roars the waters part no escape his hunger
Mighty reptile creepin' slow famous in Lou’siana
Everybody runnin' fast when they see the gator banner
From the darkest cypress trees he strikes with deadly stealth
Better keep your boots dry boy if you value health
Folks whisper ‘bout his mood swings man ya better heed
Mess with the king of the swamp he'll make ya bleed
Biggest gator in the swamp got jaws that snap like thunder
When he roars the waters part no escape his hunger
Mighty reptile creepin' slow famous in Lou’siana
Everybody runnin' fast when they see the gator banner

Fun song :-)
The guitars sound great, I wouldn’t have guessed they were midi without seeing the logic project in the video!
I won’t go into any detailed analysis. I just really liked it a lot. You write good songs… seriously!
Agree with Klownshed, a fun song ... but so well constructed, after listening I was surprised how relatively short it was.
it felt longer (in a good way) densely packed with little changes keeping interest and a really decent repeating chorus. Reminded me of a favourite in parts (Devil went down to Georgia - Charlie Parker band).
I also enjoyed White Void but wouldn't have guessed it as the same creator :-)
Nice song, the drums weren’t bad at all, the entire song was written well, and it sounds like an organic acoustic bayou song. Good vocals Joe.
Wow, excellent stuff. Love the vocals, the melodies, the arrangement and the MIDI guitars (and banjo!). What a great song.
Thank you all guys for listening.
Yes, midi guitars can sound not too bad. I'd rather record a guitar, but I don't have any near me right now.
It was actually super fun to make it, but considering how simple it is, it took really a lot of time.
Well, That is definitely not what I usually write. But guess what? I just finished a blue grass song. Go figure.
Yes, I think teh secret for the drum is KISS: keep it stupid simple. Do NOT try to do aything fancy.
It is just supposed to be fun. Nothing deep happening here, neither in the lyrics or the mood. Something it feel nice to do something like that.
And it absolutely is fun! Sometimes that's all a song should be. 🐊
I uploaded a slightly updated version on bandcamp: https://josephbalson.bandcamp.com/track/the-gator-king
Great change of style, feel, genre, pace etc etc performed superbly, great fun 👌
