Default Screen Orientation and Multitasking Annoyances

I have been playing guitar and bass through these awesome Amp & FX simulations and adding other cool apps through audiobus and midi etc. It all works quite well now with my new iPhone 6 but there is still one major frustration that keeps me from enjoying all these great possibilities: Apps that go into background mode always appear to wake up the wrong way around if they're in horizontal orientation. So I struggle to get them to flip back by an awkward and long guitar tilting motion.
Of course I could turn the phone the other way around, you might say, but since it is mounted on my guitar/bass the preferred way is to have the home button and headphone output on the right, so they won't get in the way of the guitar strap. For a lefty it would be perfectly right but unfortunately I'm right handed. I tried the orientation lock but that only makes things worse because apps still wake up upside down with the additional problem that now I can't flip them by tilting the guitar anymore.
So...

...Help!!!

Isn't there any way to lock the apps into my preferred orientation and keep them there, even if they awake from BG mode? This is really frustrating. There should be some possibility to send a fake accelerometer signal somehow or to have a separate app that sets the screen orientation. Or would every app need to be coded differently to change it's default orientation? I hope not...
Maybe some of the friendly devs around here could offer some insight and hopefully a way to solve this problem.

  • Are you on iOS 8? I've been dealing with crazy orientation issues for iOS 8 compatibility with guitarism. Not sure what is going on with this OS update but orientation is definitely either significantly different from iOS7, or just not working properly.

  • Yes, I'm running iOS 8.0.2. But I've had this problem since iOS 6 so I wouldn't blame it on that. Although I agree that I've had some other orientation problems where it just won't notice I turned the device since iOS 8. I think there's probably a default orientation coded into somewhere that unfortunately is upside down for my purposes.

  • Maybe I'm the only one having his iPhone mounted this way. I wonder if there would be some tweak with a JB to solve the problem. But with iOS 8 on iPhone 6 there's no JB yet.
