  • @espiegel123 This looks great, thank you, diving in now.

  • Cool! Thanks for sharing.

  • @steve99 @Edward_Alexander : if you have any questions either about how to use it or how it works…or run into any problems, let me know.

I hope that people will find it a starting point for their own customized solutions.

Retrospective recording definitely witchcraft to me :) Took me some time to work out what the Loopy AUv3 was doing in your input chain - but had a deeper look inside and keen to try that out.

How retrospective recording works is that whenever the clock is running, there is a buffer (essentially an invisible clip twice the master cycle length) that collects the incoming audio. When you retrospective record it either grabs the last full clock cycle and slams it into a clip which is what happens in the video. That is quantized mode. Or, it grabs a master cycle’s length of audio that ends when you hit record. That is immediate mode.

WhadISay is set to a long master cycle at 60bpm that captures the last 64 seconds, last 32 seconds, last 16 seconds. Its clock starts as soon as you open the project that contains it. So it is listening even when the main project’s clock isn’t running.

  • @espiegel123 Thanks for that explanation and thanks for all the ‘help’ within the template and the YouTube vid.

    Some early questions:

Your ‘double taps’ and ‘tones’ are in different control profiles, why is that and what’s your strategy / method for switching between them and ‘Triggers’?

What’s your thinking in having the seperate pedalboard page?

I can probably make my own ‘guitar’ and ‘bass’ buttons, but would be good to restore them to the template. Any particular reason you removed them?

With the Groovebox, you say to make 3 presets - can you expand on what you mean there? Would you then enable preset switching from within Loopy?

Thank you, if I answer any of my own questions whilst playing about I’ll come back and edit this.

Thanks for the questions. I will eventually use the questions to improve the help -- I will also (if there is enough interest in the template) cover this and more on the wiki page I've created for it (https://wiki.loopypro.com/Templates:SL4_Simple_Looper)

The reason that I have the tones and double taps in separate profiles was organizational. Also, I was having trouble with double-taps for a while and it made it easier to try out alternate bindings.

Why the pedalboard page? I find it both helpful for me to visualize the footswitch use, it also facilitates MIDI Learn I find to have the actions consolidated.

I am not sure I understand the question about the guitar and bass buttons being removed. Are you not seeing them on the template?

Groovebox presets. You asked what I mean about creating three groovebox presets. Loopy Pro let's you save presets for any loaded AU (https://wiki.loopypro.com/AUv3_Presets). So, if you are using an AUv3 drum machine, set up something that you want to use as a preset rhythm and save it in Loopy Pro as a preset (tap on the folder icon at the top of the AU window and create a new preset). Do that so that you have 3 or more presets that Loopy Pro can recall. Then edit the radio buttons so that they they recall the presets that you created.

How do you switch between them / have the stops and triggers available at the same time? Or should I combine the control profiles?

Ah - no I’m not seeing them, or any radio buttons - i was assuming you’d ‘simplified’ them out. Maybe my device? I’m on an iPad Pro 10.5 2017. I’ll try it on another. (Loopy 2.0 beta 537).

That makes sense - are the radio buttons already in the template?

    Continuing thanks for your help.

Can you post a screenshot of what the template looks like on your device? It should look just like it does in the video. There should be lime green buttons labeled GTR and BASS towards the bottom left middle of the screen.

I have updated the picture on the wiki page. The template's main page should like what is shown here

The groovebox preset radio buttons are on the pedalboard page. They are labeled Rhythm 1, Rhythm 2, Rhythm 3

There is no need to touch those profiles or switch between them. They are all set to be active. More than one profile can be active at a time.

  • @espiegel123 Aha - all looks as it should on iPad Pro 12.9 2021, running App Store loopy pro 1.1.24. So I suspect it’s an issue with the 10.5 iPad - I think I’ve had a similar issue before with one of my own templates, but it’s not usually my main music iPad so I didn’t get to the bottom of it. I’ll add a screenshot, but as I say, all good on other iPad I’m on now.

@espiegel123 here’s a screenshot from my 10.5 2017 Pro with the missing buttons and knobs. Also, on this one I can only select one control profile at a time - which is strange because, as you say, it’s not like that on my other devices. Obviously not expecting you to troubleshoot this for me. Sorry for confusion caused.

That’s a bug. Since you are running the beta, would you mind posting about the missing widgets on the Slack? If you aren’t on it, PM me and I will provide info on joining.

  • @steve99 : if you go into layout edit mode, is there any sign of the missing buttons?

I just realized: one of your devices isn’t running the most recent IAP purchase. If that is a beta, you need to go through the motions of purchasing it. If it is the App Store version, you need to either purchase or restore purchases. Multiple control profiles and radio buttons were added more than a year after release. So, loopy thinks you are missing those features.

Go into System Settings and check the purchased features list.

Genius - Thank you for unravelling that mystery. Goes to prove there’s no such thing as a stupid question (even if that wasn’t the one I began by asking) :)

Fully up and running. Much obliged.

  • I am glad to hear that is sorted.
